Forums - Gaming Discussion - How the heck did Sony manage to retake the console market again?

You mean the ones I just mentioned which you chosse to ignore and deny:

"At least my reasoning were based from facts and history (EVERY Xbox One unit bundled with Kinect at launch - no other option, Microsoft claiming Kinect was "essential" - lies, Kinect unbundled and overcharged - cost more to the consumer when buying both a standalone Kinect and standalone Xbox One, multiplatform games running better on the PS4 over the Xbox One - better value on PS4 for game performance, etc.)"

^^^^^^FACTS

Dude, please have fun with your "FACTS/ASSUMPTIONS/BELIEVES/HOPES/WISHES" and enjoy yourself. I'm here to talk about the Play Station Four and the topic not your hate towards Microsoft and the Xbox One. Have a nice evening.

Did your OP not originally said:

"The price of the Xbox One was the big issue for Microsoft and it was just too late for them when they reduced it....."

I was just following your lead.

No, you just gave your own believes/assumptions about why Microsoft should not have priced the Xbox One (which is not the question of this thread) and then just went on how they were forcing their stuff on consumer, how the package had no values, how Kinect was useless and overpriced, etc... Which again was not really the point. Justified (my oppinion) or not justify (your oppinion), the price difference was (in my opponion) why Sony took the lead... I'm 100% sure the majority of the general consumers does not care about your assumptions or believes and just went by one thing:

Again let me repeat :

Two machines that can play all my games (at least the majority), looking the same, both labelled/marketed as "new generation" console.
One is 500$... the other one is 400$... Christmas coming, want to buy stuff for my family, I'm not a forum nerd and do not give a cent about how much those 2 pixels looks different on this system or that system and I can play COD on both. Will go for 400$.

See, nothing there is leading you to start your rent about how Microsoft was lying, bullshiting, overpricing and how much the value of the Xbox One package was bad for you and you other forum facts. Nothing.

Uncharted 3, The Last of Us, Ni no Kuni, Tales of Xillia, Kingdom Hearts, etc

Or

Gears of Call of Halo 19 1/2

Tough choice.

It's really a tough choice if you don't give a crap about JRPGs, then your list is just a bunch of shooters.

Yea that's the thing I love JRPG's. I've been playing them since I was 12. So over 20 years.

Anything making you happy :) Enjoy your "fact" stuff. Microsoft is bad, lying, bullshiting, forcing stuff on people and all that. I'm really sorry you have to live on the same planet than this evil company.

Getting locked out of the market usually involves being replaced by something better. Your own example demonstrates this, nokia replaced by smartphones. The difference here is that everyone loves smartphones (myself excluded) but the core gaming market never really embraced the Wii as anything other than a once-and-done fad.

Nintendo is a perfect example of how to really lose a market. They screwed up a dozen ways in the SNES and N64 era and lost it to the PS1. PS1 really did offer something people were happy about, so they never went back. Sony became the new gaming standard.

Sony wanted to hit 60 millions sold to consumers before end of this month...

I wonder how far off it will be? By 3 millions maybe?

I think you're wrong there, they forecasted 60 million shipped by the end of march. They'd shipped 57 million by the end of December 2016. So it's likely very close.

As far as downfalls go PS3 really isn't bad of a dip and only lost to the 360 in America and the UK. Essentially all things remained stacked in their corner with playstation brand being dominant in most of the world. They just they just learned from the mistakes of the PS3's mistakes whilst capitalising on its successes (first party, perception of power).

It helps that Microsoft messed up with the Xbox One's $500 entry price and pre-launch DRM drama.

FACTS:

Every new Xbox One will come with a new Kinect, Microsoft has just announced.

$399 Xbox One without Kinect launching in June

Microsoft has announced that a standalone Xbox One Kinect will be available starting October 7 for $150 USD...

This is a big turn-around from 2013, when Microsoft executives claimed the Kinect was "an essential and integrated" part of the device.

Games on PS4 run at higher resolutions than their Xbox One counterparts.

PS4 is selling twice as well as Xbox One, overall

I live on an AWESOME planet.

EDIT: Another fact: "The move [unbundle of Kinect] reportedly paid off, with Xbox One sales doubling after the standalone offer went into effect." from one of the same links above.
