I don't think it's really that the others screwed up. The others weren't doing anything other than what was expected. Sony goes above and beyond. They never limit themselves and none their ventures have ever aimed to overshadow their core consolewhich they've remained true to for over twenty years. Microsoft doesn't have the world draw that Sony has and never has. |
Actually Sony is pretty much always doing what is expected. Their consoles don't really change that much besides extra hardware power and what kind of format it plays (CD, DVD, Blu-ray). They're by the number consoles, and you can tell by their names: PS1, 2, 3 & 4.
And I'm not saying that's a bad thing for the record, but saying Sony goes above and beyond makes no sense.
Oh and the PS3 released for $600 just because Sony wanted to push blu-rays... If that's not comprimising your core market then I don't know what is. Without the PS brand they'd have died then and there. If MS or Nintendo ever tried doing something like that they'd lose big time. From a hardware and price point perspective the GC was much better designed than the PS3 yet it barely sold over 20 million units (relative to the time period both consoles released in).
