Mario will easily outsell it. More than easily. Splatoon 2 will sell less than Splatoon 1

I dont see any reason why would Splatoon 2 sell less than Splatoon 1. Switch instal base will definitely be much bigger, and Splatoon in handheld mode gave totally different dimension to game that will attract handheld lovers too, espacily in Japan.

Mario.

3D World outsold Splatoon and that didn't have the reception or attention the 64/Galaxy series of Mario games, which Odyssey will be part of, have.

Splatoon 2!

Pocky Lover Boy!

In Japan, Splatoon 2 will dominate easily.

Worldwide, most likely Odyssey.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

I'll pick mario because it comes out on holiday season.

not sure but both over 10 million

That's brave. I am hesitating to say that Splatoon 2 can make it to 10m because the local multiplayer options for a single system aren't going to be good.

Consequently, I am going to pick Super Mario Odyssey for this thread.

i dont understand why Splatoon doesnt offer local splitscreen, its such a stupid decision.

but i dont think its that incredibly bold, it did 5 million on Wii U and i strongly believe Switch will sell significantly more than Wii U, its launching earlier in the systems life so its legs wont be cut short by the system being killed off in less than 2 years and in Japan portability is king so we should see a nice boost there.

that should help launch sales be higher but lifetime sales wont be affected by that.

Switch seems to have reached more outside Nintendo's core fanbase than Wii U. A more casual fanbase will favor Mario more than Splatoon.

Disagree it's more the opposite imo Splatoon is a fun shooter casuals can pick up in the same way Mario Kart is a racer they can pick up as well as Smash being a fighting game they can get into. Mario may have appeal to the casuals but the 3D platform games are more something for avid players if anything where as the former mentioned titles have added factors that give them

Why can people pick up Splatoon and have fun, and not pick up Mario and have fun?  The Mario games are not especially complex (less so than Splatoon), and sales have shown that they have very broad appeal.

Mario will initially wildly outsell Splatoon at first, but then Splatoon's legs will kick in and rally back, coming quite close or even surpass mario by the end. IMO.

Bet with Intrinsic:

The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.

i think Splatoon & 3D Mario both fall into the category of casual-core, games that appeal to both sides equally.
