Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Is Compatible With Most Amiibos

When Mario Kart 8 was first released for the Wii U in 2014, you could scan your Amiibo to receive an in-game Mii Driving costume. Each costume was themed around the Amiibo character that unlocked it. Amiibos were relatively new at that time, but just about every Amiibo available unlocked something. Mario Kart 8’s updated Switch port, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe intends to continue that tradition.

Yesterday, Nintendo updated the Amiibo page for the port to show that over 50 Amiibos will be compatible with the game at launch. There are currently more than 20 Mii costumes that will be available at launch if you have the corresponding Amiibo.

Here’s a list of the usable Amiibo categorized into series:

I would not buy this game, just because I'll have to unlock everything again ^^

I spent enough time on the WiiU version. They should have created a way to bring your Wii U save to switch. Maybe not fully, but at least you should be able to unlock everything.

They could have updated the WiiU version with a tool that gives you a code that marks your progress.

Of course you would lose your record times and stuffs like that. But you could use that code to put into the switch version and have bring over your number of stars for each cups in each speed category, and the characters and karts.

Huh, could've sworn they removed the third party character costumes (Mega Man, Sonic, Pac-Man.)

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

We all know Smash is coming as well.... This is the reason I will probably not get them immediately or at all.

Do people still use Amiibos? Is this still a thing? I'm just curious.

I stopped caring for these except that I'm only looking forward to Cloud and Bayonetta's Amiibo and that's about it.

Can I use amiibos without opening the case? I don't want to break the box just to use them one or two times.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

There are ways, but you still need to poke holes into the back of the box to remove the metal sticker

OT: So now with Splatoon, BotW and AC compatibility.. not that it really changes anything though :p

I use amiibo every single day. The BOTW amiibo give you a lot of stuff every day. The MarioKart usage is just once to unlock the Mii outfits unless Nintendo changed how they work. I was hoping Nintendo would release a MarioKart set that had characters riding in the carts.

Hey! They got SONY on my amiibo! Wait a minute. Two great gaming tastes that game great together!
