Does anyone know how big the DVD market is including both genuine and pirated DVD's? Well Blu-Rays would be lucky if it 1% of market share but genuine market thats a different story.

Sure thing. If I download TRUE HD movies in like 15 minutes(or more realistic: less than an hour) then I'm sold. But I don't see that happening yet.
Kasz216 said: The problem is they have two different definitions of HD penetration. Akuma's definition is anyone who owns an HDTV. Assuming everyone only has one HDTV. While Crumas definition of HD Penetration is people who use said HDTVs to watch actual HDTV and not just as fancy looking flatscreen SD TV. The second definition is going to be more important to Blu-ray adoption rate. 33% owned HD Tvs by July. 20% in the US were actually watching HD contend by October. Draw from that whatever you want. |
The Nielson report was fairly specific: consumers who owned an HDTV *and* an HD tuner/decoder. That's close to your clarification, but I thought I would point out that those consumers would actually have to acquire additional hardware to meet the requirement.
BR isn't replacing shit. It's always going to be a niche market for videophiles, not for soccermoms and Joe Wal-Mart. How is this hard to forecast?
If the U.S. goes into a recession it'll be double true.

actually if the US goes into a recession it will easily top DVD in 2 years. During times of economic pains the entertainment industry grows.
Lol, OK.
I don't know anyone who -- with a family and getting told they're not getting a raise, or worse losing a job -- would buy invest in a $1000 TV, $400-500 movie player and a slew of $25-30 movies they already own, when they can't pay their bills. When they can get the same movie for $5.
It's weird to me that people get so wrapped up talking to people on the Internet they forget what real life is all about.
