Forums - Nintendo Discussion - There is Still Demand But No Supply of NES Classic

I doubt anyone around here is still thinking about the Nes classic, but I've been patiently awaiting retail availability of it since November. Every once in a while it occurs to me to look into the availability of it, where I (of course) find that it's not in stock anywhere. Step 2 of the process is to look at eBay and see if the price has come down, and instead find that they're still selling regularly for around $140. Also, a primary cause of the supply issue is immediately made clear:

These are still selling at absurd costs every day months after release... is any company as incompetent as Nintendo when it comes to meeting demand?

Sooo while obviously Nintendo are one of the worst offenders with this sort of thing, does anyone else have any supply grievances? Do you think companies will ever make an effort to mitigate the rampant scalping present in multiple industries these days?

If I had the money to waste I'd hire some Japanese grafiti artist to sneak over to Nintendo's HQ and paint images of these scalping pyramid stacks all over their building haha (there's waaaay more pictures than I showed here, I'm beginning to think the entire Nes Classic supply is held by about 20 douchebags).

Nintendo have totally stopped supplying Norway with more units, and even stated that there won't be any more in the future either.

Predicted 15+ million lifetime-sales for God of War:

I'm sure in the end everyone will be happy to have one, sooner or later. Stupid scalpers, though. I truly hope nobody buys from them and they lose their investment, although I know thats just wishful thinking.

In the Netherlands the only way to get one of these is to pay a ton of money, no news on new supplies

Don't think Nintendo is going to make much more.

They want people buying a Switch when its Virtual Console fires up. NES Classic is something they only make money off once.

Around the Network

I'm not sure if meeting demand is as much of an issue anymore. I think the scalpers are more on an issue. If one person has dozens of them, then what does that say for the countless people that are selling them for inflated prices? I think the retailers are the issue here. They need to limit how many of these things a customer can buy. Nowadays, they have bots that can purchase these things online. Even if Nintendo were to step up production, the scalpers would get to them first. I think the best thing that can happen is if people begin to lose interest and the inflated value drops.

Its evident Nintendo hates munny.

It's definitely done on purpose, maybe not initially, but seems a lot like what happened with Amiibos :/

Agreed. I think Nintendo did it because they needed to turn a profit for that quarter. If they sold x amount of Classic Nintendo consoles they would be fine.
