Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo planning unconventional software for Switch

A new interview with Nintendo’s Shinya Takahashi has appeared from a recently-published Japanese magazine. In it, Takahashi talked a bit about software for Switch.

Takahashi said that Nintendo is preparing new IP one after another. There is / are title(s) in development that take advantage of the Joy-Con.

The interviewer asked if there are revolutionary out-of-the-box titles like Brain Age on the way. To that, Takahashi said he can’t discuss any details, but of course they are planning it. He also stressed the importance of indie games like Snipperclips for Nintendo.

Note that Takahashi isn’t saying Nintendo is working on a Brain Age successor or sequel. Rather, there is something out-of-the-box (unconventional) planned.

Forget that. Just bring back the revolutionary Project Giant Robot.

Just Bring " Meme Run 2 " it will be a new system seller for switch

(=^・ω・^=) Kuroneko S2 - Ore no Imouto - SteamMyAnimeList and Twitter - PSN: Gustavo_Valim - Switch FC: 6390-8693-0129 (=^・ω・^=)

I'd rather like to see them take advantage of the joycons. They'd really work quite well with a title akin to Wii Sports or, if they went back to the older format, a new Mario Party game.

The tech in the controllers really is exceedingly impressive, it just serves no purpose outside of a "meh" party game atm.

personally, as a gamer, would prefer them sticking to what works for gamers, if that makes sense lol.

it doesnt, there are literally hundreds of millions of people who play games, these people have different preferences & tastes in games and nothing can possibly appeal to all "gamers".

Nintendo have said the IR camera is going to be able to record full video "in the future".

Nov 2016 - NES outsells PS1 (JP)

Don't Play Stationary 4 ever. Switch!

1, 2 Switch isn't exactly lighting the world on fire, there's very little to no buzz about it on social media amongst casuals and it selling about as well as Nintendo Land in Japan, I don't think Snipperclips is really what anyone is buying a Switch for either.

It's fine to try these ideas now and again, but Nintendo should remember first and foremost what is driving their sales right now and that's a big, epic game like Zelda and the fact that their system doesn't look like a child's toy with Saturday morning cartoon advertising. They should focus on continuing that, not every wheel needs to be reinvented.

The problem too with "shallow" or simpler games is that people don't see the value in those games as in they sure as hell don't want to pay even $10 for them in many cases (sorry Mario Run). That's what mobile has done to the gaming market, especially for casuals, they are allergic to paying for games because why should they, they know there's 20 different games waiting for them for free, paying even $10 for them is an absurd idea, Nintendo trying to charge $40-$50 for this stuff is outdated thinking.

Zelda: BotW (big, epic takes on Nintendo IP) and Splatoon (fresh, fun takes on popular genres) are the way forward, not looking backwards, if they forget this they are going to get themselves into trouble again.

I am fine with this. SEGA did unconential on Dreamcast and we got Jet Set Radio,REZ,Shenmue,Skies of Arcadia,Space Channel 5,Chu Chu Rocket and more.  Nintendo since Wii U has been acting more SEGA like in their games. Mario Kart 8 tracks feel less conservative and more wild like soemthing from Sonic All Star Racing. Not to mention more Ninty characters and tracks. They even took the transitional music from Sonic Racing Transformed. Xenoblade X felt a lot like Phantasy Star and even a little PSO. The situation for it existing is similar to PS. Final Fantasy on a bigger players console and need something to match it. Splatoon while a online shooter has a lot of Jet Set Radio in it. ARMS is basically SEGA's own Virtual On.  Wonderful 101 felt very UnNintendo to me. They published a raunchy SEGA IP with Bayonetta 2. SEGA was never afraid to risk their IPs while Nintendo always been VERY conservative with them..until  Wii U. Hyrule Warriors,PokkenBotw,Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE plus others.

Nintendo is less afraid of risks of new IPs and spins on older IPs or even taking treasured IPs in a bold direction. This is closer to what SEGA was like with their software in the Dreamcast era and Nintendo's own SNES era.

Sounds interesting, but new IP doesn't always mean good games, so I'll be cautiously optimistic about this

That's great, it's always good to have new IPs.

Btw, I don't know why you guys are assuming "uncoventional" means casual. I mean, Splatoon was very, very uncoventional when it was announced... most people trashed it, but now love it. Same about Arms which looked stupid at first but it's now drawing attention and curiosity.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won
