I've had similar debates with users from all sides, though it'd be accurate to say my discussions are more often than not against Sony and Nintendo fans (which is logical, they make up the overwhelming majority of this forum). I do think it's interesting you consider a technical discussion like this "taking sides" though. That's a remarkably low bar you've set

You started your first post by calling it one of the most demanding on the WiiU, than expanded on that in your previous post by saying "it was using most WiiU resources to the point they could never fix a little issue". If it's using so close the WiiU's maximum amount of resource, Bayonetta 2 and Zelda can't really be more demanding.

Regardless, I've not claimed the Switch can't do it, nor that MK8 wasn't a technically solid game. I just pointed out that MK8 isn't a great example of demanding tech on the WiiU, and that the resolution and performance of Switch titles has thus far been fairly illogical. You'll notice i never brought up Fast Racing Neo, since that's a considerably better example. Arguably the best right now.

You make no sense, you say MK8 was a bad example because it can mantain the same level of performance in 2 split mode yet Fast Racing Neo is a good example despite the fact that it also mantains the same level of performance in 2 split mode.

My point is aimed at the tech backing them. The Switch being able to run MK8 at 1080p is fairly unsurprising, it's already a highly scalable game on the WiiU. The same would hold true of Fast Racing Neo, but the jump is considerably larger. Not only is it going from 640x720 (used to re-construct 720p) to 1080p, it's also a significant graphical jump. It's hitting its targets on the Switch while also utilising newer, Switch specific technology. That's why it's a great example.

Edit: I should note i don't think Neo is a perfect example, just the best of the small selection we have.

Wow! And it still looks beautiful!

I saw someone play it yesterday and it looked quite good. Better than the WiiU version.

Maybe people will be too busy playing to notice it. 530P is higher than what the 3ds did right?
Plus I'm sure Nintendo can make 720p work.

Yup..... this is a thread based on a nintendo game alright. People always seem so forgiving when it comes to nintendo. Meanwhile the XB1 pretty much lost an entire gen on the back of 900p (amongst other things of course).

Devs have no idea how to optimize games on Shiitch hardware.

Errr...... isn't splatoon first party? Unless I am stupidly mistaken; but if by some off chance I am right, if nintendo can't optimize for their hardware then who will?

This is a screenshot taken by Switch itself, there's a drop in quality for some reason. It's the same with the Wii U, the screenshots were capped at 480p. The game looks sharp while playing undocked.

All the dramatic people in this thread have never even touched a Switch, let alone play the Splatoon 2 demo.

Undocked reminds me of the Vita. Switch is the Vita 2.

Vita means life. Nintendo Life!

Notice i didn't agree with/disagree with the screenshots?

I am  was just pointing out how when it comes to nintendo stuff, even stuff that blatantly looks off somehow would be said to look great. Its like nintendo gets a free pass on a lot of stuff. You start seeing things like "it looks beautiful"/" It looks vibrant"/"people will be having too much fun to notice"....etc.

But when it comes to a PS4(1080p) vs XB1(900p) comaprison, both resolutions that are better than 720p mind you, you instead hear things like XB1 is a blurry mess.

Just weird thats all.

That's pretty damn rough and noticeable. The game looks like it still plays very nicely but it's the shame that the switch is so underpowered. It looks more like an expansion than a real sequel. I doubt this will affect sale though, the art style, much like zelda, really helps to mask the lack of power the switch has. I wonder if this will be the general style for the switch's, far more focused on art design than anything else graphically, which I guess it's always true for Nintendo games

If it is dynamic resolution, then is this the lowest it reaches?

I'd be shocked to see the game stay at 720p. How the heck does Zelda run at 720p?????? I better see the most godly AA on this game

If at the end this is just a downscaled Switch screenshot taked with the console feature, I wonder if the thread that clarifies that will be half as popular.

It shouldn't be surprising. Nintendo exists in a very different space of the market than Sony/Microsoft. Sony/Microsoft choose to compete in terms of graphical fidelity and power, and this is compounded by comparisons between multiplatform games. Nintendo on the other hand chooses to go after other parts of the market by bringing changes in hardware design instead of power. Because of this, Nintendo gamers are less likely to really care about this type of graphical comparisons and more likely to care about the other things that attract people to Nintendo.

Additionally, Nintendo does tend to make games that look beautiful on whatever hardware they are working with. Photorealistic games require the most performance to actually look right, but Nintendo tends to use different art styles to make things look good no matter what. This is why games like Wind Waker still look gorgeous despite being on the Gamecube.

Splatoon is no different. It is a fast paced game with a vibrant style which disguises some graphical weaknesses when you are playing. Nintendo is usually smart about putting extra touches where they are needed, so even if something isn't technically perfect, it can still look beautiful.
