Forums - Gaming Discussion - So Sony games always seem to be the most reviewed games

Developers sent the best version (higher review scores) to reviewers and with the PS4, and espcially the pro, it has a heads up over the Xbox One.

And yet mass effect andromeda scored lower on PlayStation than Xbox despite a higher resolution and more consistent framerate. It's weird.

Makes perfect sense most of those PS only websites just finished Nier and Horizon and get this open world game riddled with bugs while on Xbox its been quite quiet so those websites might be a bit more forgiving.

Also, some of the negative reviews might just not cover the xbox version as an alternative reason.

Only interesting thing here is how even PS3 games got more coverage. PS4 makes sense at least.

Because PS3 dominated in Europe and many countries in europe have their own reviews, makes perfect sense. If Xbox was ever a thing in Europe it might get more coverage, it proberbly won't and the market share- fanbase and amount of playstation sites is expidentially larger in europe, maybe except for the UK which was and still is a pretty big country for Microsoft.

In the end it doesn't really matter, a good game is generally a good game on both platforms the only real "bad ports" are generally on pc with a rare exception here and there ^^

To say X360 wasn't a thing in Europe is definetly an overstatement. Even in Italy, a storically PS dominated market, I knew a lot of people who have switched to 360 after the Ps2, a lot.

The reason why PS games have more media coverege (and had more media coverage even in Ps3 days) is more simple that it seems. It's because Sony is better and more proactive than its competitors to ensure its games get media coverage. That's one of the reasons of Playstation long-term success.

Also, during the Ps2 and Ps3 era, the fact that Playstion was market also as a multimedia machine, other than just a game console, ensuring the platform got more coverage even from techonogy and electorinics magazines and sites, not just on gaming focused media.

Playstation home consoles has some of the biggest market so it makes sense. You're not going to expect to see that kind of number of reviews on a Vita game lol

That's up to the number of reviews.
Usually the version with the most reviews have the lowest score, because most of the criticism will be aimed there, while the other versions that have less reviews, lack the amount of lower scores to weight the same on them.
They are usually close to each other, though. Around 2 or 3 points of difference between themselves (for games without any particular disparity, as bad porting, for example).

If we assume a metascore is good measure to evaluate a game (a statement I do not agree with), a larger number of review doesn't mean a lower score.

If ever it means a more precise score, since the higher count of measuraments can outweight outliers more easily (like a 4/10 score when most reviews are between 8 and 9).

Maybe because in Xbox there are less titles that eclipse it, compared to PS4 library...

It was the same around 10 years ago with the Xbox 360. It was always the most reviewed version among multiplatforms.

Probably because Playstation has been the most popular console every generation it's been in and the hardcore crowd is arguably larger than the Nintendo fans..

That's rather a stretch for gen 7... the PS3 only overtook the xbox360 when their relevance had decently faded, and the Wii outsold both.

Also, you'd have to describe what you consider to be the "hardcore" crowd... for a while there the only people Nintendo had left could easily be called "hardcore", in that they were willing to spend extra for what was generally not even their primary console to play some exclusives.

Tons of playstation magazines

Do you notice something? Both the Wii and X360 fizzled out towards the end of Gen 7 while the PS3 remained strong until the end. That is brand power and popularity. Nintendo and MS shouldn't kid themselves into thinking that they ever had a chance just because they mildly eclipsed a playstation in one gen for a bit. The fact that the PS3 pulled close despite having a much much weaker start and a platform marred by issues is proof of populaity. Look at what happens to other brands when they're panned from launch.

Riding on initial success is easy, catching up from below and staying on top is not, two things playstation was able to do while its competitors were not. That's why Playstation is currently and pretty much has ever been the strongest brand in gaming.

I think the hardcore crowd willing to invest in Nintendo is much smaller than the one backing Playstation. It's just natural that there is more content produced, e.g reviews, for the most popular platform.

As for Nintendo, I'm pretty sure that it misses out on at least on a couple of reviews just because of their draconian handling of their copyright.

There are more Sony sites. I thought that much was obvious...

Yep, pretty obvious and simple reasoning.
