Forums - Gaming Discussion - Yooka Laylee remove 'controversial' Youtuber JonTron from game

http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2017-03-23-playtonic-removes-controversial-youtuber-jontron-from-yooka-laylee

"We recently became aware of comments made by voice artist JonTron after development on Yooka-Laylee had been completed," the firm told GamesIndustry.biz in a statement.

"JonTron is a talented video presenter who we were initially, two years ago, happy to include as a voice contributor in our game. However, in light of his recent personal viewpoints we have made the decision to remove JonTron's inclusion in the game via a forthcoming content update. We would like to make absolutely clear that we do not endorse or support JonTron's personal viewpoints and that, as an external fan contributor, he does not represent Playtonic in any capacity. Playtonic is a studio that celebrates diversity in all forms and strives to make games that everyone can enjoy. As such, we deeply regret any implied association that could make players feel anything but 100% comfortable in our game worlds, or distract from the incredible goodwill and love shown by our fans and Kickstarter backers."

Its fine, its normal. Much like what happened between Disney and Pewdiepie, a company/corporation doesnt want to be associated with a public figure if said public figure is part of a controversial topic/issue. Its just a business choice.

Whelp. Always interesting to know where people stand politically.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

well, freedom of speech at its finest. Jontron has his opinion and playtonic the answer.

He got destroyed in an argument in a Streaming Show, he wanted to argue about how racism and so on goes both ways which is fair enough but he went about it in the most stupid, to give you an idea it included making sweeping arguments about non whites and immigrants which I won't repeat due to how politically heated this site gets and all of his arguments got shut down by Destiny and co.

Free speech does not mean speech without consequences, and they are well within their right to change their game as they see fit. I do hope everyone who protests censorship in games understands that. This isn't censorship, it's a change being made by a developer that no longer wishes to have Jontron contributing to their game.

That being said, while I personally plan to avoid Jontron's videos in the future, his voice being in a game I backed didn't bother me in the slightest. But hey, it's their game, and it won't be affecting my experience in any meaningful way, so...eh.
