Well at least Logan was good. We are also getting Live action Gintama but that is from the japanese not ameicans. Wonder how bad Ghost in the shell will be

I've heard rumours it's pretty faithful to the original anime, which I recently rewatch to remind myself. A few changes for western audiences but close. However the anime has certain scenes that the US movie going audiences wouldn't get, like when it just plays music over scene setting up plot.

Anyway, if it succeeds, then it might make Hollywood consider making more live action versions of well known animes, if done well of course, not talking Dragon Ball here. Just give them time and they'll ruin Akira, is all I'm saying. :P

Don't worry, Paprika and Evangelion will get destroyed too.

No, its just what most people want these days. Not many wants to see new interesting stories when they can watch people in tights saving the world...

Yes the current seasonal anime produce masterpieces that are sometimes easily forgotten. But Gintama is as awesome as it has always been. Logan was awesome as well. People for some reason like Attack on titan and naruto a lot when things like Drifters Tokyo Ghoul ACCA Onihei are much better. But in terms of anime, Nothing rivals Gintama

If we are going for super popular comedy series, Jojo at least rivals Gintama.

In more niche stuff, osomatsu san is gold, in a more slice of life kind there is Tekyuu, etc.

But I'm more of a josei, shojo 15-18 and slice of life psychological seinen type. I'll only be satisfied when A girl on the Shore gets adapted by an indie movie maker.

Sure Gintama is primarily a comedy but it is multi-genre in reality. Like look at the current arcs. It has those elements and is a complete universe if you will. You have action, slice of life, psychological and it mixes tem brilliantly. Never watched JoJo so can't comment on that

Just a guy who doesn't want to be bored. Also

You know what I miss? Adult cartoons from the likes of Ralph Bakshi. I get that Americans think 2D animation is dead (glory to Europe and Japan), but why can we not get adult 3D movies?

We got Sausage Party /jk

At least ther is Bojack Horseman, even though it's a 2d series. Or as you said, you can go full international. European and japanese having different movie culture from americans is a prettypositive thing after all.

I think this blog post is relevant: http://geovanydiaz.com/blogs/34-are-movies-dead

History is nothing more than a tableau of crimes and misfortunes

If all you do is watch the crap mainstream studios and producers feed to you then it may seem that way.

It's pretty much like the games industry. If you only pay attention to blockbusters, then you might think that everything is the same.

And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,

This is because of Ghost in the Shell. I said to me friend, how many anime licences do you think would come from this if it succeeds? Okay so it might not have done as well as they hoped but that does mean the Japanese owners of these manga and anime won't say not to a fat Hollywood paycheck.

Hmm, pie.

The real blame is on people who go to the movies. They want the same shit.

This :D

But, actually, movies have always been remakes. Mostly stories like Romeo & Juliet or David and Goliath are remade in movies over and over. Even if it's not about love between two different groups (Titanic, Avatar) or a small guy/animal against the big bad guy/animal, it's always old stories and nothing new. Even with your favourite movies/series that you think don't have any of those storylines. (simply think about hits like Breaking Bad)

Why? Because people love these stories. That is why the "originals" have been so successful and are successful to date.

If there was a movie that broke with rules of these classics in story telling, concluding or even the story itself, most if not all people would feel unsatisfied after watching it.

In the end, it doesn't matter if it's Iron Man 7 or a new "idea". It'll be the same story, just in a different coat.
