Forums - Sony Discussion - Opinion: With PSNow, the PS4 seems like a waste of money

This assumes that Sony is good with online services. They aren't.

Sony has decent online. It's Nintendo that is years behind.

I see it as an  additional service option  rather than a replacement.

Which it should be seen as imo. That's why his Netflix example made sense lol.

totaly agree.

Research shows Video games  help make you smarter, so why am I an idiot

Streaming doesn't compare to physical media. It's a fun, convenient option but even for video (more so for games) streaming is a good way to try content out. If you like it, pick up a copy.

4K streamed video is of a lower quality than a 1080p Bluray, even a well-encoded 720p rip might beat it out. For gaming, these issues are compounded.

I wonder if you'll have to pay to play PS4 games online using PSNow.

Gaming as a service is the future of Sony and Microsoft.

PS4:

-$299 including one game and one controller

-Anywhere between $30-60 at a store per game (Cheaper used)

-Annual online fee of $60 (With included games)

PSNow:

-$100 a year

-$60 for an upfront controller

-Over 350 games, with almost 100 being AAA titles

-PS4 games coming soon

-Available on even the crappiest PC's

There are more points to each, but overall it seems like PSNow is the better deal, unless you cannot wait for the brand new games. It would take 3 years of PSNow to equal the cost of PS4, with that PS4 owners could only play one game.

You're forgetting the biggest reason to not support PSNow... shitty lag. You can down play it. You can say it's minimal bla bla bla, but it's there and for some games it's really bad. Anyone who plays online FPS is totally fucked.

I also agree with that. I have Netflix and I get it for $9 a month. That is the same price as going to the theatre for one person. Why would I want to go to a theatre when my friends can come over where it is cheaper and opionally more fun?

I guess this question kind of goes beyond the bounds of the thread, but it's a subject I'm interested in so waht the hell...

Not withstanding that movies take quite some time to go from theaters to Netflix (if they even make it at all), there is something to be said for the theater experience IMO.

Going to the theater, sitting in the seats, seeing the huge projection screen, watching previews, sitting through the credits, all of that is still important to me.

There are a couple of boutique theaters in my town and I'll frequently catch screenings of old movies there. Even movies that I have on BluRay or movies that are available on streaming.

The experience is valuable to me in a way that sitting at home and watching NetFlix is not. It's hard to explain.

Plus imagine taking that chick on a first date!  " are we going cinema", "nah babe we Netflix n chilling"! She would be like wtf dude I'm out. Or maybe she would be DTF who knows.

If it had 90% of the games the PS4 had I'd probably be down, but it most likely won't.

Can you play Nier, Horizon, Yakuza 0 and all the other stuff on PSNow? Do you honestly think new $60 releases are gonna be put on the system in the future? Will they all be on the System and not be individually picked?

Seriously looks like a poorly thought out thread.

I'd rather just buy my games on day 1 rather than wait months or years and moan on twitter when game X is gonna be put on PSNow.

I really hope Sony doesn't go down the same toxic path as Adobe, and Autodesk. It used to be that you paid $1000 for a copy of 3DS max, and $500 for a copy of photoshop. Now, both companies charge you an insane monthly online subscription fee. Both programs now cost up to triple as much as they did in the past. It is just a rip off.

If Sony went this route, they would put all PS4 exclusives on their streaming service in order to kill the PS4 as quickly as possible. After that they would sell their games as a "service" and jack up the price.

Just imagine a future in which you don't own any physical games, and your save files are locked behind a $25 a month paywall.
