Well, Death Note is originally a thriller based on mind games and psychology.

If Netflix wanted to make a movie "full of nudity, swearing and violence" like they said they're making, maybe they shouldn't use the Death Note name. A Transformers-like movie using the "The lord of the rings" name would surely be poorly received too...

Swearing and Violence is hardly a reach for Death Note. Pretty sure those were already there lol.

Shoehorning nudity will probably be low brow. Will see how it actually plays out.

You have almost no swearing or violence in the anime, heart attacks aren't considered as violence. The most violent scenes are when Light and L punch/kick each other...

I mean, a guy going out of his way murder people in whatever way he likes seems pretty violent to me. Heart attacks weren't the only way people were killed.

For something that covers such dark material, it's not surprising to me for it to include darker things.

And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

Yeah, but for me the usual Hollywood action/violence is the opposite of "dark", it's just the same checklist box for almost every american movie/series ("Bam, explosion ! Pew, pew, guns!"). The psychological side of the original work is a lot darker than any usual Hollywood violence. Like in the teaser, the scene when they're falling from a collapsing ferris wheel... What's the point?

A thriller turned into an action movie isn't "including darker things" IMO, it's the complete opposite: making it flashier and dumber for the average american TV viewer to like it. We'll see how it will turn out in the end...

DANGLING ON A FERRIS WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

I actually really liked the live action Japanese films. The main two anyway, the spinoff was by a different director and sucked balls.

Interesting. I enjoyed Death Note. Even the "second part".

I commend you. While I enjoyed Death Note over all, and there are high points in the 2nd part, I didn't really like the manga after that happened...

Honestly, it looks terrible, but hey, maybe it could turn out pretty good, despite the casting being very weird.

I enjoyed the first part much more. I didn't hate the second part. I'm willing to see the good AND the bad.

Where as most people seem to go "well that happened, now everything is bad" and they miss the good parts.

I didn't think it was that bad to drop the manga altogether... I suspect some people probably did that then?

It sounds like it yeah. Which I guess if you can't enjoy it that is one thing. I am curious how many people even tried though. I think most went "well that happened, i'm out".

I made it to the end, and it was definitely worth it.

If I'm gonna be honest, I'd even say I prefer the Japanese films over the anime. They have a much better conclusion, in my opinion anyway.
