Forums - Gaming Discussion - Nier automata director wishes for PS VITA 2 or at least a smaller version of switch, which is a bit too big for him ( as a handheld console ) !

Why would he need to clarify that? He's comparing it to a handheld, and adds further context with the mention of mobile gaming. I think we can reasonably assume he's referring to the Switch as a handheld. He's not going to get very far if he just holds the screen :p

But fine, let's pretend we're robots and can't read context, and assume he is actually using it as a tablet. We're still left with 2 remaining possibilities; either it's a bit too much for him to conveniently carry around (he's going to need the JCs whether they're plugged in or not), or maybe he just outright doesn't like the size. As i mentioned to Goodnightmoon earlier, both the iPad and iPad Air fit in my hands fine perfect fine, but i still prefer the Air. Everything being a bit more condensed works well for me. Alas, i now know my preference is a contradiction with... something.

As an expression of preference regarding the design of the Switch, i see no contradiction at all. Doubly so when that expression is so incredibly tame.

Because portable gaming has evolved, this evolution is apparent in the form factor when I use the Switch in a portable manner I don't have the JCs attached most of the time so any issue with size is null and void to me and not every game is going to be played in the same manner either, Switch is still a handheld no matter how it is played in portable mode which makes the statement even more bizarre. That's why he should clarify when he makes a statement because to me it's a contradiction because the size of the device is the same as a Vita, you and him can have your preferences but I don't care for them tbh if I read a statement that isn't clarified I'll respond to it as such.

You keep banging on about his statement being tame like he's being attacked which to me indicates you being more in a defensive stance as well, any statement can be responded to regardless of how tame it is and for you to think otherwise is mind boggling.

I think you yourself never read what I initially posted because I always refered to the tablet unit's size and that the JC custom usage was an evolution of handheld and portable gaming, if you never realized this when I posted that's not my problem as the device itself is the same size as the Vita even more so for anyone playing with the JCs detached. If he's reffering to the JCs being attached then he should clarify just that.

I already gave the dimensions previously in this thread, and even without JCs, Switch is bigger than Vita (if measures are right, I took them from wikipedia) :

Lauster said:
Switch (console only, without joycons) :
23.9 cm (width) by 10.2 cm (height)
(9.41 in × 4.02 in)
= 243.78 cm²

PS Vita (1st model, wifi version) :
18.2 cm (width) by 8.35 cm (height)
(7.2 in x 3.289 in)
= 151.97 cm² (even a little less, vita is not rectangular)

I put my ps vita with a soft case or my 3DS in my pocket, but ps vita is close to the maximum size I can put, so I know I can't do the same with the Switch.

So yes, Switch is bigger, and his claim sounds legit to me.

Nope I've placed Vita directly on top of the Switch with out the JCs for comparaison, it's bigger in width, Switch has a bit more height, I'll show you when I upload the images.

Problem is, those numbers are for the console with the joycons attached, not without them.

Yes, that's what I'm seeing with the dimensions given by nintendo.

The mention "console only" on wikipedia is wrong.

Correction (considering 3.59 cm per JC) :

16.72 cm x 10.2 cm for switch

= 170.54 cm²

We're going to have to agree to disagree on the handheld front. I'm of the belief something has to be held in your hands to be a handheld. I don't consider the Switch a handheld when docked, so i don't see why i would when it's sitting on a table while i use a controller. That's just a more flexible version of it being docked.

Regardless, as i already said there are other variables size can be relevant to. If he's using it as a traditional handheld akin to the Vita, the Switch is indeed bigger. If he's using it as a tablet, there's still more he needs to carry around. In both situations, he might simply prefer the screen to be smaller. None of these are contradictions.

If you think he should clarify [xyz] then fine, but I find it odd you're unwilling to assume a neutral position, but are willing to assume he's being contradictory. The absence of information doesn't create a contradiction. You'll notice the closest to an assumption I've made is that he's talking about handhelds in the traditional sense, but my primary point of argument (that he hasn't said anything contradictory, and that his comment can be personally correct) doesn't require any assumption. I've not even said that his preferences aren't contradictory, just that this statement here isn't inherently.

I never said it couldn't be responded to on that basis. It's just that the more limited the scope of a comment, the more likley it's subjectively genuine. I'd certainly respond differently to "it's a bit too big" and "jesus fuck this thing is massive, it's way too big".

I'm not sure why you're coupling my and his preferences as being apposed to yours. All I've said to you on the Switch front is that i don't share Yoko's preferences. As i mentioned to goodnightmoon though, the Vita actually gave my hands cramps to i expect i'll prefer the Switch's design.

That sounds more likely

I hope we get a psvita successor

This pictures makes it very clear, if you can fit a PsVita on your pocket, you can also fit a Switch, just put the joycons in the other pocket.

You replied to me so unless you state otherwise you're assuming his stance when replying I don't care what discussion you had with someone else as that's nothing to do with me and only between the two of you.

I said the statement comes across as being a bit contradictory and gave a reason why as the two devices are near enough the same size (image above) to the point that even adding the JCs isn't much of a change in size if anything I find it more odd with you trying to spin some kind of agenda out of people responding to the statement.

I've told you straight if he clarfied his preference is in regards to solely using it with the JCs attached then that's fine clarification can do quite a bit to explain context, choice of words doesn't override the basic point that people are responding to which is about size that argument is null and void here and the responses to him are just as tame which is why I question why you have a problem with people responding him to begin with.
