Forums - Gaming Discussion - Nier automata director wishes for PS VITA 2 or at least a smaller version of switch, which is a bit too big for him ( as a handheld console ) !

Yoko Taro, the director of the Drakengard and NieR series, and responsible most recently for NieR Automata, has said that the Switch’s release makes him wish that there would be a Vita successor, too. He says that while the Switch is great, it’s also just a bit too big- and he would like something smaller, like what the Vita was. He also says that smartphone gaming doesn’t scratch the same itch for him.

I, too, wish that Sony would make a third handheld, because for all their faults, I loved the PSP and PS Vita- sadly, however, it doesn’t seem likely. Thankfully, the Switch is a worthy successor to those machines, and over time, Nintendo can maybe release a smaller revision of it, too.

Told you...  The first official paradigm of one of the many people  that see switch as big for a handheld console! ( It's slim, light, the vertical isn't big but it's  elongated )

Edit: Here's http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/profile/10140/pbroy/with a switch in  his jeans trousers pocket:

More portable, durable and cheaper switch revision later release is imperative!

Switch is too big? I never hear of that.... I heard complaints about it being too smaller and people wanting a Switch XL in the future....

It's already smaller than my tablet (without Joycons, it's the size of my phone!) and the Joycons themselves are so small they already make attachments to give it some bulk.

Not sure how much smaller it could go and still have some power and not be hotter than a French hooker.

It can... By eliminating the huge bezzels of the screen!

Well the Nier automata director showing interest in the Switch is a good sign, I expect a smaller, cheaper, handheld only version of the switch with un-attachable controllers and a docking station being separate to come out later and to be considered the full 3DS replacement. (Though personally I would prefer the size it is now)

They're really not that big, especially by typical tablet standards. It generally serves as a place to hold and grip onto without covering up the screen with your hands.

Introducing Nintendo Itch.  4 inch version of Nintendo Switch! non detachable Joycons!  No TV port! $199

That's right...

However, are the joy cons narrow? I don't think so...  My hand doesn't cover the touch screen of new 3DS xl and  I guess the grip of each side have the same width with joycons.

Too bad we'll never see a Vita successor. Put it on Switch then :)

There are touch only based games (such as Voez) which are best played using the tablet without the joycons which can feel like they're getting in the way for a game centred around only touch based inputs with your fingers, especially when having to be quickly tapping multiple fingers on the screen at the same time.
