Forums - Movies & TV - The best underappreciated movie of all time.

I might go Dark City on this one. Best movie of 1998 for me, and some of the best production design in any movie, ever. It was overshadowed the following year by The Matrix, which actually used some of the same sets.

Tagging for all these awesome movie suggestions.

I am having a hard time to come up with some movies right now, besides maybe the movie 'Moon'. Loved it. By Duncan Jones.

So, it's not the best underappreciated movie of all time or anything like that, but I still find this to be a damn great movie that got less appreciation than it should have (I would have to think much more to find the "best" I could think, I guess xD)

It's some sort of pseudo-apocaliptic world (or like situation is disastrous, even though society still stands), where eight candidates come for the perfect job in their lifetimes, but they're faced with the fact that their exam sheet is totally blank. The movie then degenerates into what they start doing to face that issue.

Here's the trailer:

EDIT: even though you won't have context within the trailer, it is kinda spoiler-ish, so tread with caution.

EDIT 2: The movie is called Exam.

this looks super tense!!! added!

This is the best underappreciated movie of all time, well in the West anyway.

That's actually a well known classic for people that is really into cinema, its a Tarkovsky movie at the end of the day, one of the greatests directors of the last century, but yeah, great movie, deserves to be aknowledge for more people.

As for my pick, not sure if it's underrated since it was nominated for some Oscars (didn't won a single one sadly), Cidade de Deus (City of God in English), a brazilian movie which holy fuck is amazing, is the story of a favela.

I wouldn't call City of God underappreciated, as it's #21 on imdb with over 560k votes - it's also a fantastic movie that stays with you for decades.

Equilibrium

I've watched it twice now since a friend is a big fan, tbh I think it's pretty boring.

@op )

Moon was already mentioned hm..

I really liked "Contact" when I first watched it in the cinema - don't expect much/any action though (I think it's trailers misrepresented it quite heavily)

For action fans I really can't recommend "The Equalizer" enough, one of my favorite Denzel Washington movies - and so is "Inside Man".

But how is one of the biggest classics of all time underappreciated? 12 angry men is one of the most important films ever, is kind of like saying Sgt Peppers from The Beatles is underappreciated.

Battleship

Lol. You know, John Carter actually has decent meta ratings. Still though. :)
