Well by that logic, Nintendo is milking the hell out of Mario since it has plush dolls, food products, board games, toothbrushes, party supplies, etc.

Yes, there is an Uncharted movie in the works just like Mario had a movie and a couple TV shows.

Try to be a little less biased.

Mario was milked to high heaven but it's Mario and that's kind of how the toy/game industry worked back then.

Forza's made 4 appearances (Horizon/Motorsport) on XB1 already after the 4 on X360. Imagine Nintendo doing that to Mario Kart. Nintendo rarely goes over 2 installments/system and isn't afraid to completely drop a successful IP for a generation or 3.

Just to be clear, im not saying any of them are milking their franchises, im just pointing out a double standard you are using.

If Sony has milked Uncharted from 2007-2016 by releasing 5 mainline titles (1-4 & Golden Abyss), a compilation title, a card game spinoff and an expansion than i suppose Nintendo milked Metroid from 2002-2010.

Metroid Prime, Metroid Fusion, Prime 2, Zero Mission, Prime Pinball, Hunters, Prime 3, Prime Trilogy, Other M

Also Sony is pretty notorious for giving their franchises long breaks.

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

Additionally, if you use the same figure for worldwide (I used Japan, USA, Canada, France, Germany, UK and Italy) then you're looking at close to 120 million sales. In reality, rates of interest will be different for each country but this article does not make a good argument for the Switch facing an uphill battle against the Wii.

Wasn't there also a report that Nintendo upped launch+first month shipment to 2,5m? If that's true it should comfortably reach 2m and not struggle to get there because of supply constraints as the article says. Even if that report isn't true, if sales are sluggish due to supply constraints that means every single unit Nintendo ships is selling out. It should reach 2m or very close to it either way. I feel like the person who wrote this had a somewhat weak grasp on how sales work.

Facts and stats are optional

You're getting the really hardcore Nintendo Zelda fans who are actually by and large mostly grown adults. These are the same group of people who are willing to camp out for rare Amiibo early on. So it's not that surprising.

We need to kinda see where the system is once supply evens out.

What do hardcore Zelda fans have to do with attach rate.

I purchased a switch and Zelda. That was it. Fairly certain that gamestop is not bragging about a 1:1 attach rate situation. I woudl like to think all systems launch with at least a 1:1 atach rate.

That said, the Nintendo Switch has its challenges when it comes to reaching that goal. A recent study found that while half the population of the UK knows what the Nintendo Switch is, only 32 percent of those who heard of it intended to buy one. If that’s the case worldwide, the Nintendo Switch may face a long, uphill battle in its attempt to overtake the Wii.

Ehm? So the population of the UK is 65 millions, meaning around 32 millions have heard of it. Now supposedly 32 percent of these indend to buy it, that makes for 10 millions in UK alone.

Not saying that will happen, because I think that's way too much. Just saying that their logical reasonment doesn't make any sense. At least not with that as their "facts."

Wait... what?!

The population of the UK is 64.1 million.

64.1 * 0.5 * 0.32 = 10.26 million

The Wii only sold 8.65 million in the UK! With those projected numbers, how is this an uphill battle?

Or it could look like this.

18.9 million households. Half had heard of it, 32 percent of those households plan to buy one for the household. Or ~3 million.

Anyway, it all still sounds like good news for the Switch, but the Wii comparisons definitely sound like GameStop trying to gin up sales. It's in their best interest for the Switch to do well because a lot of physical stuff gets sold if it does. Pro controllers, extra joycons, stands, docks, cases. Lots of stuff that can't be purchased in a digital store.

Annecdotally, it sounds right to me. I'm more excited about the Switch than I've been about any product in a long time. I've already bought one physical and two digital games along with a case, a screen preotector, and a pro controller. I've never been this spendy with a system right out of the gate before. I'm also friends with a very PC gaming heavy household that has already bought 3 Switches, 3 copies of Zelda, and 3 pro controllers.

That's just four people though so who knows?

I still want Nintendo to release official numbers. Why are they shying away from that?

They haven't hit any important milestone, so why should they?

What's an example of an important milestone to you?

The annual fiscal year earnings release is on April 27th, I'm sure we'll see numbers then.

For Gamestop the Switch is the Ideal console by the way, a console with a ton of assesoires, small internal storage and high sales of physical games.

This is their favourite console they are going to hype it up lol, and they should because there will be a very small digital scene on the switch and its success will go hand in hand with the stock price of the store.

5m in Japan, 10m in the USA, 1m in any of the bigger European countries.

That's arbritrary. 1M worldwide would have been a good milestone. 2M is another good one.
