Forums - Gaming Discussion - You're in charge of Bioware, how would you make Mass Effect Andromeda?

So reviews are in and things are not looking good, still I'll be buying it to judge for myself. The criticism mostly comes from Andromeda being a rehash of the previous trilogy instead of something fresh and new with terrible writing and animations.

What exactly would you change about Andromeda, or how would you design it?

I would develop a Mass Effect game and not a space expansion for Dragon Age Inquisition.

Hire a team that can actually do proper animations

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

Biggest thing is more risks in regards to new aliens. Mass Effect was so fresh because it had over a dozen alien races with distinct personalities. Andromeda has two or three feeling far more limited in scope.

Tighten up the hiring process. The writers and animators are not to blame. The hiring team who thought those people were qualified are culpable.

I would take less ques from MMO's and games like Vanquish and try to remember that I'm making a RPG and not a 3rd person cover shooter for Gears of War fans. On top of that, I'd employ people who actually know how to animate to do the animations.

Rip mass effect 1 down to the metal. Remove multiplayer add coop.

Ouch

Me, I would get rid of the old alien species and introduce new ones. I would disband Bioware and give the IP to Obsidian and hire some alumni from CDPR. Keep the gameplay, keep the Frostbyte engine with Obsidian's writing=win. I'd get rid of the useless character creator.

Also less humanoids = more variety in enemy design, like big scary monsters.

I wouldn't. I would make a new IP and keep things fresh. The team that understood the subtle machinations of the Mass Effect series are no longer there. EA has sucked the lifeblood out of this developer and franchise. Suffice to say

Fuck EA

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi
