Forums - Sony Discussion - Digimon World Next Order vs Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth

The gameplay is very different. This is of course a matter of taste, which one likes more.

But what is with the story and characters ? Which game is better for you ?

Digimon World Next Order vs Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth on PS4.

Here are the categories:

Story ? Character ? Gameplay ? Worlds ? Overall ?
I'm very excited about your decisions / thoughts :)

Around the Network

Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth is a fantastic game.
And now its getting a sequel !

"Cyber Sleuth's plot borrows from other properties pretty liberally, but the mashup of the plots of Sword Art Online, Soul Hackers and a bunch more actually works. The game focuses on an online MMO/life simulator called EDEN. A hacker gives you a piece of code that allows you to capture Digimon. This unsolicited gift is the start of your troubles, as you are immediately attacked by a malevolent force called Eater. The battle separates your mind in the game from your body, effectively trapping you in the virtual world." - gamerstemple.

World & story: in Cyber Sleuth is fantastic.
Combat: I love turn based combat rpgs.

I havnt played "Digimon World Next Order" the videos of it I saw, just didnt appeal to me nearly as much as Cyber Sleuth's did.

Digimon Cyber Sleuth is not a fantastic game. I would not recommend it to anybody not a major fan of franchise. Hell, if you are a major fan of Digimon, but not into basement otaku anime garbage then you may still have hard time with this one. I actually recommend Digimon: Dawn/Dusk, which Cyber Sleuth is just a console version of. Doubled the amount of Digimon, A better/faster battle system, and a Plot and tone inline with what you'd expect from Digimon anime.

The plot of actually Digimon borrows heavily from Digimon manga/Japan only animes, specifically Digimon Evolution X. Royal Knights/Yggdrasil have been done to death, so even the climax of the plot is just blah.

What? It seems like everyone loves it though? Atleast people here and on neogaf.

Also on Metacritic:

Cyber Sleught (45 reviews) 75 score (alot of people think it got a harsh review score). Majority of reviewers are "positive" reviews (75+). User score 85.

World Next Order (31 reviews) 67 score. Majority of reviewers are "mixed". User score = 74.

Im assumeing most people that play this game dont follow the anime/manga.... they just play it for the game it is.

Maybe its just me though... I enjoy turn based games, and dont really follow anime's of digimon.

I havnt played World Next Order, because the trailers didnt sell me on it.

Cyber Sleuth looked much better done imo.

i enjoyed cyber Sleuth, but not a mind blowing game. I certainly enjoyed it 10x more than pokemon moon.

Well then i guess you should because as someone who isnt a major fan of the franchise i really loved this game, not only did i liked it more than any of the previous Digimon games i played but i even enjoyed it more than the Pokemon games i beated.

Added something there.

Also i did a quick search on Metacritic and i guess this will be one of the few times i will agree with that site, since Cyber Sleuth seems to be the highest rated game in the franchise.

Every time you say that one of my Guilmon from World 3 loses a level out of sadness.

I will play World 3 one day for sure but you also need to get Cyber Sleuth.

Cyber Sleuth is the only Digimon game I ever played. It feels a lot like SMT so why I got it. I will get the sequel simply for more of that formula.

I haven't finished either and will probably never finish cyber sleuth (I'm at about 60% of the story in CS, and only have final boss left on NO).
Cyber Sleuth wins every category but the gameplay to me, but I found Next Order much more enjoyable, as I alredady did with Championship, World 2000 and re:digitize before.
I just love simulation games and time management gameplay. The lifespan system also makes me care a lot about my partners.

Really hope Hacker's Memory fix the difficulty spikes in the first game. At times, on Hard Difficulty, the bosses are way too OP (e.g. "One Punch of Athena")
