Forums - Gaming Discussion - Mass Effect: Andromeda lead facial designer had no video game experience (also hates men)

I just think BioWare wanted to make a revolutionary new way of animating faces, but it became too difficult at some point so they just left it.

There's something about it... when you see the faces in that game it's clear that there's the potential for them to be incredible, but it went horribly wrong lol

I wouldn't be surprised if the facial animations are eventually the best (or close to it) in the industry in time; no idea how long it'll take, though.

What is it about Mass Effect that makes people go absolutely apeshit? Deus Ex had terrible facial animations and nobody complained this loudly. I mean for christ's sake, the game isn't even out yet. There are no reviews. No one has had more than a passing glance to see how poor animations affect the game overall.

EVEN IF this woman were responsible (she isn't, it likely comes down to Frostbite's inherent issues with character models), and EVEN IF she has extreme leftist views, there is absolutely no justification for the harassment she or anyone else is receiving over a VIDEO GAME. This article serves as an attack ad to spur up a witch-hunt, and as an enormous fan of Mass Effect I am deeply ashamed that my favorite game series is at the center of yet another cause for negativity.

If, once it's all said and done, the animations, writing, and structure of the game is indeed bad through and through, blame the developer, blame the publisher, blame trends in the industry. Going after individual people brings us all down.

the animations look like something you'd find in the pits of hell.

It honestly looks to me like a bad case of the uncanny valley. There are moments when it seems so close to perfect, but all the tiny imperfections ruin the whole illusion. The older, simpler faces of the ME trilogy worked better because there was less fussing over the little details.

Didnt Bioware just tweet that she didnt work on the game...

Just because you write "I hate men" somewhere doesn't mean that you actually do.

I'm not going to jump to conclusions about this particular individual based on what was said in that article.

The thing was taken out of context to make her look like she hates men, the guy who made the article is a fucking idiot just check him out on twitter etc.

Site linked to Gamergate just tells what was the agenda is.

Thread is garbage and should be locked for spreading lies.

"facts", yea right

Can you please put it into context? I'm very curious as to how you're going to justify that.

Sorry but she listed herself as the lead facial animator on Twitter and Facebook so the facts were correct at the time based on her own words.

The rest of Kotaku's opinion about harassment is irrelevant and is just Kotaku being Kotaku.

It doesn't matter what she listed herself as and it doesn't make that fact. I could put "president of the United States" on my Twitter account but does that make it any more true? Bio ware themselves stated that she's not the lead animator. It's right there in my post.

Well forgive me for thinking that a person wouldn't publicly lie about his/her job on social media. Your POTUS isn't a good analogy because it's an easily verifiable piece of info. If you said on faceboon, twitter and linkedin that you were a developer who worked on MA: A, for example, and posted your name and picture, there'd be no reason to doubt you.

Also, keep in mind that Bioware has no issue keeping a racist on their payroll so I thought this would be par for the course for them.

The animations in this game were revolutionary... in 2010.

If Satan the lord of darkness or his disciples EA and Activision made a game I want to play, then I'll play it. So I don't care what this person does or think. She's just an animator, though. Maybe some of the concerns surrounding this person would have been valid if she was the writer or something.

Edit: apparently she's not even working on the game. So people are just upset over nothing.
