Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Switch Revisions Are Basically Already Possible

I dont seeing Switch revision before end of 2018. earliest, and actual 1st revision will be Switch Mini just for handheld gaming, so that would be more like another device in family of Switch and not replacement instead of current Switch. Also I dont see stronger Switch in next 2-3 years.

3DS got its first revision (XL) at 17 months, I think it'll be the same for Switch.

Current Switch is perfectly handheld and removing the right/left bezels will make the system even easier to carry around.

I think THIS form factor is the future for Nintendo too, people need to get over it, the clamshell days are either over or going to be a minor part of Nintendo.

This form factor is what you want for a *portable console* that invites people to gather around and play together and also offers premium gaming experiences (so you want that bigger display).

In fact I would bet money that Switch revisions already physically exist in Nintendo's R&D labs, with a Tegra X2 inside of them. They're not some hypothetical concept that maybe is possible, I'd bet when Nintendo designers go to work, they are using those units and testing on them already. A year from now they'll be cheaper and easier to mass produce and suitable for public consumption so it'll just be an issue of when Nintendo wants to release them. The Switch you are using now as a consumer is something Nintendo finished up last spring if not sooner, their R&D is by now well past that, the main hold up would've been the Tegra X2 chip's availability, but that is available now to developers, anyone on this board could even get one, so Nintendo has likely had it for months.

17 months for Switch would basically be Q4 2018.

Switch is good handheld, but its not perfect, its big and battery could be better, but point is to offer cheaper (especially after 3DS dies), smaller Switch just for handheld gaming.

Future of Switch is multiply factors something similar (but again difrent beacuse Switch is home console in same time also) like DS/3DS had, current Switch, than cheaper, smaller Switch just for handheld playing, and even maybe stronger Switch just for home playing.

I agree, but releasing too early Switch Mini/Pocket wouldn't be good marketing decision, they first need to gave some time for current Switch and when 3DS dies release Switch Mini/Pocket that will be around $100 cheaper than Switch (so we talking about price of $150-200, while curent Switch will be $250-300).

Also I dont see point of current Switch just stronger because its almost certain we will have Switch Mini/Pocket just for handheld play, more likely is something stronger just for home use, but I dont see that in any case in around 3 years earliest, while definatly see Switch Mini/Pocket in around 2 years.

Of course that's why i will wait this for 2 or three years while building up my budget. There is no rush to buy Switch , because for now i having a lot of backlog of games LOL and i can focus finishing old games rather buy a new one.

If it happens(which has a chance that it will) it wont be at 2018.Its a 2019 at earliest.Assuming sales are good, of course.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Well, first they have to sell all 16 million switches.
And i hope the prices are too high. switch can be at 250 by end of year, even less in 2018. And great part of the prices comes from accessories.
the mini revision would come without a dock, neither cables. Can be really cheap, maybe 150$.

Well, i described a switch mini like concept a months ago: http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=225569&page=1

To be honest, i honestly don't see how a Switch-only handheld would be a good idea now. It would feel less than Switch who can allow for home and on the go gaming.

I think the only revision that can actually sell, is a "Pro" version.

With better battery life, more power and a larger screen, the Pro would actually make sense to upgrade to.

A handheld + HC/handheld, on the market seems a bit redundant, whereas Switch 1.0 and Switch Pro with enhanced features all around, is a way better offering and can, given that there is a significant price difference, appeal to more people.

If the Switch does well enough, they won't feel pressured to release it within an inconvenient schedule (they just missed out on the better chip this time around), so I imagine when they offer their own improved version it'll be more bang for your buck.

I'm loving it as is though, so there was never any chance of me waiting lol

You have to go cheaper before you go more powerful.

Neither really makes any sense.

As soon as you change the form factor, the joycons aren't compatible and a new dock would likely be required. It would make more sense to sell a standalone compatible screen than a new model. Higher res on the portable is completely unnecessary.

3D Switch is the only remodel that makes any sense and that's pretty useless too.

Cutting out the left/right black bezels don't interfere with Joycon compatibility at all.

Higher resolution screen would make sense for a model that can run the docked performance while undocked, so that makes perfect sense to me.

3D as a craze is long since over, no one cares about that anymore.

I still care about 3D All I want is a 27 inch 1080p HDR glassless 3D monitor at 144Hz and I'll be happy, I don't care about 4k lol.

So long as they come up with a way to back up your saves onto an sd and retain your digital purchases. More than happy to trade in for a better model in a year or so.

New 3DS + New 3DS XL - 2014

To be honest, Nintendo has a revision for their portables more than people think, this is almost a new portable design a year from 2003-2014, it's 11 different models over the span of 11 years.

I'm gonna say new Switch model or even two around July 2018, right in line with the 3DS.

Tegra X2 is just beginning production now, by summer 2018 it will be easy to produce and might even be cheaper to produce than the Tegra X1, which will be on an old 20nm process by then.
