FACTOR 5 IS BACK ?!!!!

If they are as good as they were in the old days, Nintendo would be wise to partner with them.

I dont even know who they are.... had to google and look up their games lineup.

Last game they did was "Lair" in 2007, that reviewed really poorly.

They did a few starwars games for N64 and Gamecube...

"good as in old days"

If they havnt done a decent game in like 15+ years... I wouldnt get my hopes up.

Whats the point even if it is easy to develop? Switch will never get 3rd party support with that low horsepower.

Experience porting multiple video games to weaker hardware, mostly. All the developer tools in the world aren't going to make things like simplifying 3D models, animations, lowering audio quality, removing/simpifying AA, removing/simplifying shaders, simplfying textures etc, etc., etc. signifcantly less work. The game still has to run at a stable 30 fps, yes? That takes time and effort to achieve. Even if you try to mitigate that by adding "scaling abilities" (and I use that term very loosely) to engines, you're just making your engine more bloated which means the resources you have to actually run the game are even less.

I mean sure if you were to build a game from the ground up that wasn't very resourse intensive, or was made with the Switch's specs (or weaker hardware in general) in mind I can imagine that being easier (and that highly depends on how much work is required to support both operating modes), but anything that is made for more powerful hardware and needs to be ported isn't going to be so easy.

Why in the world are talking about porting a game?

Because most third party games are multi-platform.

3DS has a 240p screen, a 200Mhz GPU and 256Mb of Ram, that didnt stop it from selling 70 million units and having games from 3rd parties, so I guess they mean, Graphic Intensive, shooty, explosivey, gunny, bombey games... thats fine, everyone who buys the console knows that...in fact, thats why I have a PS4, an XB1 and a PC, in Switch I want something DIFFERENT!

PS4: Tryklon  Steam: Tryklon

Switch: 0307-6588-7010 | New 2DS XL: 2037-2612-6964

MacBook Air (Mid 2017) | iPhone SE | Apple Watch Series 3

Irrelevant to the statement. Downporting is by its very nature a difficult task.  It means jack all about the actual difficulty, or ease, of development on the device.

He said ease of development.  Priod.  He didn't say it's easier to port from PS4 to Switch than developing the actual PS4 game.  Why would anybody even conjure that statement?

If you say so.

Out of the 10 launch titles in the US, 7 were 3rd party.

He obviously meant 3rd party AAA titles. Heck I doubt it'll get a lot of AA titles either. Of course smaller games and indie games will be ported to switch. It seems like it truly is easy to develop for so it won't have any productional difficulties. But the system selling 3rd party games will be missing. Again - this remains a Nintendo games platform. If you want to play Nintendo games you must buy it. If you don't like Nintendo games more than any other developer's...than you must buy another console.

It's powerful enough to run Zelda, Mario, side-scrollers at 60fps. Mario Kart at 1080p/60, and the coming slew of Bravely imitators at (resolution and frame rate don't really matter).

It's gonna be a fun 4-5 years :)

You pretty much just described the Wii U.

Regarding Switch’s technical performance, Eggebrecht said its between Wii U and Xbox One. However, he claims that developing is as easy or even easier than the PlayStation 4. Switch is further supported by having all modern GPU standards.

-Switch is performance wise between Wii U and Xbox One
-developing is as easy or even easier than on PS4
-all modern GPU Standards
-they got all rights back and Factor 5 is alive (Turrican!!)

Of course. That's why games like Mass Effect: Andromeda and Red Dead Redemption 2 aren't coming to the Switch. That's why Overwatch's dev team is doubtful they can even port an existing PS4 game to the Switch, because the Switch is even easier to develop for than the PS4. That makes perfect sense.

You do realise that few other Indie studio also stated that is Switch is very easy do develope for.

Easy development is not only point if we talk if some big 3rd party game will come to Switch.

So the Switch is going to get all of the lovely little indies that the PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U, PS4, Xbox One, 3DS and PS Vita get already. That's splendid news from months ago.
