The hardware ends, would have no idea how to use the newer cables. They'd default at their maximum version. Unless there was a patch for those devices. And that wouldn't solved hardware limitations. On some older HDMI devices. A USB 1.1 can't magically transmit at usb 3.0. Just the cable is BC with 1.1. You'd buy a 1.4 for any new device. Use your older cables, for your older stuff. It would be moronic, for the HDMI ports on your new tv, to not accept HDMI 1.0 to current.
