Forums - Gaming Discussion - Your number 1 'sleeper' title for this year

Basically, what game are you most looking forward to this year that you believe will succeed despite them lacking the hype of games like SSBB or MGS4.

Personally, despite the success of Resistance 1, I think R2 is still not being hyped up enough so thats gonna be my contender for this year. With games like MGS4 and Killzone 2 alot of people are overlooking it. Its insomniac! Things can never go wrong.

well it was released last year in Japan and Others, but Endless ocean may end up selling 750k-1 million, most people were predicting that 250k would be a success with that game.
Also, Alone in the Dark has all of the makings of a sleeper if it can deliver in the gameplay area. If it sell 1 million across all platform I would call it a sleeper hit.

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

I think Okami Wii, Wii Music, Wii Animal Crossing all stand a chance of being sleeper hits, I would say Spore as well because there isn't much hype around that at the moment.

Records: First British Team To Win FIFA Club World Cup, New Record for No. Of Consecutive Clean Sheets In Premier League, New English & British League Records for Minutes Without Conceding, New Record For Going Undeafeated In Champions League (25 games ongoing), First British Team To Beat FC Porto In Portugal, First Club To Defeat Arsenal At The Emirates In European Competition, First Team In English League Football History To Win 3 Titles Back To Back On Two Seperate Ocassions

I'm not sure you can consider a sequel that the most recent game in the series just came out last year a sleeper hit, because there's going to be people who know about it and such. Course I've always considered a sleeper hit a game that does well that no one saw coming, and not necessarily a game that does well that wasn't hyped.

Also, Endless Ocean was released in NA, so it's out everywhere now.

My sleeper hit prediction is probably Boom Blox.

Ive never played an alone in the dark game but theyve always interested me...just depends when the hell they decide to release the PS3 version and how undoubtedly buggy it is that'll sway my decision to buy it or not.

A sleeper hit can be anything you want it to be in context; to me R2 will be a sleeper cause I imagine it besting K2 both critically and commercially, despite it being a sequel to a popular game we still know very little about it.

Left 4 Dead.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

hmm bloom box... I think this has the potential to be a BREAK OUT hit! It really all depends on marketing and is the game turns out to be actually fun.

Releasing this year, I'd say: Okami Wii, de Blob, Boom Blox, Papaton

Including last year's: Zack & Wiki, Endless Ocean

Not sure about PS3/360 games.
