I paid a $100 to buy a 32GB Vita memory card the day before the console launched. From the beginning, finding Vita games in retail form has been a challenge but I still built an impressive library. I realized right away that memory card space we precious and in short supply. Still, my card filled up quickly and l son had to skip games altogether or delete other games I wanted to keep.

Well, you don't have to delete the games entirely. Just transfer all your digital games to PC (or PS3) with the Content Manager. Then only keep the games on the memory card that you intend to play in the next weeks/months.

If you want to play some of the backupped games, you don't have to redownload them from the PS Store. Just restore them within minutes from your backup, the related savegames can be restored within seconds from the PS cloud.

I currently have 180 GB Vita games, 30 GB PSP games, 6 GB PS1 games and 3 GB PS Mobile games in my "content manager" folder... but I don't have to take all of these games with me all the time.

I'm a sick man. I know I'm sick.

With that said, I like to look at my games, even when I'm not playing them. It just feels good knowing I have so many as that they're all right there. Not only that, as soon as I don't have a game with me, I want to play it.

A coworker borrowed uncharted golden abyss for two weeks. He recently bought a Vita. For two weeks, I resented his existence and dreamed of playing uncharted. When I finally got it back, I put it back in its case. Still haven't played it.

I also can't figure it out. I wanted one years ago but I simply can't see paying for a tiny card that costs that much money. I remember when ps2 first came out and back then a new memory card costed $34.99 plus tax. That was expensive to me but I needed it so I got it. But $60-100 for a card is insane.

DRM.... they where scared of piracy and so took it upon themselves to try and make their own memory technology.
They shouldnt have.

If piracy was the reason, the price of the cards wouldn't have needed to be this high.

The actual reason for the proprietary cards is that the Vita was made powerful and consequently sold at a loss to remain competitive on price, so the memory cards - a must-buy for every consumer because not all games could save on their own game card - made that money back for Sony.

Or.... R&D to make your own technology is expensive?

When a company figures they'll have poor sales regardless of pricing they just go for profit margins on little sales they'll get. I have no doubt had the Vita been a mainstream success the cards would have dropped in price significantly.

I had a 32 gb die on me JUST as I was about to order a 5th 32 gb. Also, BEWARE the 64gb Vita memory cards. They are reported to have a high failure rate. Fucking Sony.

It's because they are rare. I don't even think they are produced anymore outside of japan. Luckily there's Henkaku so I can store all of dem games on my PC without all that content managment bullshit. =P

Also, I think some hackers figured out a way to use external storage at least on the PSTV. I'm not sure if that solution is public yet.

Official member of VGC's Nintendo family, approved by the one and only RolStoppable. I feel honored.

Its like asking why Wii U is still pricey or why Xbox Live and PS plus increased in price. Its the main profit drivers and decreasing the price would accomplish nothing.

Making something proprietary isn't expensive. It doesn't take more than taking already existing technology and applying a few simply measures.

See the funny thing is - the reason these cards remained expensive throughout the life of this console is.... they were very expensive to produce. As it turns out, manufacturing your own proprietary memory cards in relatively low quantities wasn't actually cheap at all, so I' not sure where you're getting that from.

Because memory price cut won't save Vita so they better win the maximum of money.

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m
