This would be a great game to bundle with the Switch come holidays.

Sounds pretty awesome but I'm a bit more curious about how it runs handheld... mostly just hope it's able to maintain decent framerates.

The game doesn't seem like it runs horribly. The only performance issue we know of is the Wii U version which had that weird frame duplicate problem.

Handheld mode will obviously be different, but I don't think it'll be that big. After all, I'm pretty sure most people will player single player mode undocked (meaning 720p @ 60fps). Even 2 player mode would be torture.

the hardware is the same whether in handheld mode or TV mode. it will just be at 720p when in handheld mode due to Switch's screen

I got to play it twice at Pax over the weekend and it seemed to run fine.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

so if I recall correctly, it's about the same as the Wii U?

Not really an issue in my opinion

wii u is 720p/60 fps with 1-2 players and 720p 30 fps with 3-4 players but have many fps drops.

720p@60fps for single player is a given. It's very probable that it will still be be 720p@60fps in tabletop mode (two players). Three or four player splitscreen won't be available undocked.

What if you were playing 4 player spilt screen but then undocked the Switch? Will it just pause it and  say put it back on?

Pocky Lover Boy!

I'd have preferred 720p and 60fps when playing with 3 or 4 players locally. 30fps in a racing game is unplayable for me, I tried MK8 with 4 people once, couldn't stand it. This is why Double Dash will always be the best Mario Kart game, no matter what.
