Forums - Sony Discussion - I wish sony would not kill off playstation portable brand

Well... i am happy with what the Vita ended up bringing me. But i also know that Sony dropped it like yesterdays whore. It was japanese third parties that saved the vita. I don't trust Sony with a new one.

I wanted to support the vita but there werent enough games for me to buy the system

Alot of those are pretty damn good ones too, theres tons of Dungeon crawlers/action-rpgs/turnbased rpgs & strategy/platformers/puzzle's ect.

This "no games on vita" BS needs to stop.

If you can live without pokemon/mario... the Vita is a great handheld.

Xbox One has less games than the PS Vita does atm.

So it has games, and before you go "its about quality" theres tons of great games on the Vita too.

Almost 600 of those games are in Japanese, so you're making an apples to oranges comparison between libraries.  Nobody said that Vita didn't have a ton of Japanese Visual Novels, Otome games, & Dating Sims like Friend to Lover, Princess Strike, Rep Kiss, Plastic Memories, PyschicEmotion6, Diabolic Lovers: Lost Eden, Prince of Stride, Brothers Conflict:  Precious Baby, Storm Lover 5, Photo Kano Kiss; etc...   Also, only Minecraft has more than 1.6 million sales on Vita.  So Vita owners themselves haven't even made a compelling argument to buy Vita for it's software.

Most of the games that arnt out in NA / EU are the Otome/visual novels (the ones you made fun off above).

Theres plenty of games of other genre's (its a rpg dream machine).

Two years ago, it had a 10:1 attach rate.

Means on avg every vita owner has more than 10 games bought for the system, that was back in 2015.

By now its probably alot higher.

Yep, it's really sad. I always enjoyed their handhelds much more than Nintendo handhelds.

I think it's pretty widely accepted that the 10:1 attach rate Sony touted was a number buoyed mainly by downloads of psp, ps1 & ps+ games, rather than sales of actual Vita games.

I'd rather Sony invest all their gaming resources into home consoles. I don't think they'll have another successful portable with the way the market is.

I see one of 3 things happening. The following are in no particular order.

1. PS drops mobile altogether. By creating another handheld they may actually help to strengthen Switch.

2. Switch sells good enough and gets enough third party and indie support, so PS builds a handheld with similar arch to compete directly and allows you to play all of the same third party and indie games Switch has, along with some (mobile only) first party PS titles.

3. Switch sells like the Wii, "stealing" potential PS4 customers, so PS builds a handheld to compete, which runs the PS4 OS, has an easy to port to arch, and can play many, if not all games on PS4, just downgraded.

Lmao

People complained about the power of the switch. People complained about the switch's decent battery life. You were part of those people.

even after all of that, you want something the SIZE of the switch to be as strong as a PS4???? and 1080p? Do you know how bad the battery life would be? Or how much thicker or bigger it'd need to be?

The cost would be hilariously high as well. I'll happily be laughed at by console fanboys if it doesn't mean we are gonna have to pay ridiculous costs for a console.

Heck, I don't think it's even possible to have the power of a ps4 in the size of a switch. Glad enough we have the power of a wii u anywhere we go

If you are thinking about a mobile PS4 right now, you are absolutely right, but I don't think anyone is expecting that.

If a PS4 Phone or PS4 Handheld was to happen, it won't arrive until 2019. At that point, on 7nm tech, they will be able to do a PS4 level x86 and GCN based APU in a Phone and a Handheld. We will also have NAND Storage at the same $/GB as current HDDs. There is no reason we couldn't have a PS4 handheld with 512GB of storage for $399.99, and a PlayStation Phone with 5G for $599.99.

By this time with advancement in battery tech, we will also see 5+ hours of gameplay, and more than 24 hours when used for light gaming and typical phone features.

PS4 OS will also be highly fleshed out, and very competitive with Windows, iOS, and Android by 2019. They will be matching the other OSs feature for feature, they will match steam and xbl feature for feature, and they will match facebook feature for feature.

Or at least that is what is possible with some decent leadership from Sony, but with the way things are going with PS Now, Sony may be more interested with killing PlayStation hardware all together.

All the pieces are there, it is up to Kaz and Mr. House to put the puzzle together.

I hope from the bottom of my heart they never bother with portable games again.
I´d rather have all their studios working on a single platform with no compromises in favor of gaming on the go, which is something I don´t do.

I bought a PSP because of MGS PO and PW but I hated the thing.
There was only 3 pieces of hardware I regret buying. A gameboy, a psp and the xbox 360.
I will never buy a handheld again and I will never buy a microsoft console again.
