Forums - Microsoft Discussion - I think Microsoft will release an xbox console every three years.

It's just a simple fact.

MS first party studios are terrible, as I and many others have outlined before. I don't know why the same XOne fans can't admit this, when the majority of other Xbox fans can, since its an area you'd want them to improve in. We can all see it for ourselves.

The 360's most critically exclaimed exclusives were THIRD party: Halo, Gears, L4D, Mass Effect, Fable, Bioshock. Sony has had critical + commercial first party hits since the PS1, not funded, but developed by studios built from the ground up. MS has one, Forza, and a ton of other IP's tossed to the side. That's why MS gets harped on. If we compare critical + commercial success of exclusives between MS and Sony based on original studios, none of them bought or funded, you'd think MS has the edge? Lmfao hell no.

I'm just curious on what this list of commercially successful first party "hits" brought forth by studios Sony built from the ground up that we have seen recently would look like, because really off the top of my head I can't think of anything but Knack, which was bundled, and Gran Turismo, which stopped being a "critical hit" long ago and sells more on name nowadays than anything.

Not trying to say you're wrong, but what exactly would you include on this list? Maybe not all of us can "admit this" because it's an issue largely exaggerated here. Sure, if you go alllll the way back to the PS1/PS2 days I bet this list would be pretty great. Spectacular, even, maybe. I doubt that can be said at all for the PS3 era or most importantly, currently.

I include games that fit my original definition, original studios, no funding, no buying, straight up development. So no R&C, BloodBorne, Resistance, Order 1886, Uncharted, inFamous, etc. Stingy definition, but at least, its a fair criteria that has been outlined with what I'm arguing, and justifies my other point of MS being harped on for the lack of original content. We are in the midst of Sony's strongest years of first party production for PS4. It's to be determined at this point but its looking like a bright future. Knack is under 2 Million sold according to VGC, so I'm unsure what you consider a commercial success. Personally I say at least 2 Million, like Forza, could be considered a commercial hit.

TLG is at 1 Million atm, it will leg itself to 2 Million lifetime, yearly MLB pulls in 1 Million, GT Sport is a candidate for 10 Million, GoW is primed for 5 - 10 Million, Knack 2 can sell 2+ Million, and whatever projects we get from Sony Japan (one of which is a rumored JRPG according to trusted, NeoGAF user Verendus, who has a strong track record with reveals) + London Studios (8 Days has never been formally cancelled, similar to TLG, and IIRC this studio employs a large amount of people). I could be reaching for the last two though.  Older, original, Sony studios were shut down, unfortunately, so you're right in the list being somehwat shortened.

Though a historical perspective of original studios would widen this list up quite a bit.

The overall number of titles they've been publishing (your qualifier from an earlier discussion) has been comparable, but the reception of those titles has been considerably less positive. MS had published 5 90+ titles by this point last gen, and many more 80+. If you want to follow a different definition to earlier and remove various 360 titles from the comparison then fine, but all that does is shift the discussion from "MS have seen a dip in quality" to "MS have always under-performed". Neither is particularly positive for MS.

As i said, i do agree Sony have under-performed on the publishing front compared to last gen, but MS fit quite snugly in the same box.

Yeah, I can see that, but all Publishers in terms of quality has dipped. Sony was just worse imo. Also, another game I like, but forgot about was mondation racer. That was a fun karting game, but it didn't get a sequel because it didn't sell very well

I think the industry in general is finding it hard to improve upon to what the 7th generation offered. There's a lot less room for design improvement than there was last generation, so improvements have been fairly linear. There's nothing inherently wrong with that, but it does make it a lot harder to create the kind of genre defining titles we frequently saw at the start of the 7th gen.

Ha, i'd totally forgotten about MNR. I remember being excited for it after having a lot of fun with LBP, but i never got around to playing. It released around the time i initially shifted over to PC gaming, so that might be why.

Could you elaborate on the bolded? It seems a bit early to be passing that kind of judgement on MM. Dream has had a slow development, but it's understandable given how ambitious its goals are for what is ultimately a very small studio, and that a portion of the studio spent a while with Tearaway.

Tearaway for the Vita was a good game.  I haven't played Tearaway Unfolded yet but I will very soon.  I know it didn't sell very well, but to say Media Molecule is doing terribly is a stretch.

I've had Unfolded sitting on my shelf for ages now. Turns out that was a bit silly, since it's now free

I think so too.

AAA games cost way too much money so they can't take a whole lot of risks. Thats why I hope that Sony will do a deal with Microsoft to make their next console have a windows os/windows api and allow UWP.  It should cut the cost signficantly  for third party developers because they can make games for xbox one , pc and ps4 very easily.

I come in here expecting to see a discussion about the possibility of a console coming out every 3 years and I see almost none of that. Somehow turns into console wars thread again. Arnt the mods supposed to keep this in check not fuel it?

I see a range of dicussions going on, and for the most part, they're civil. A little derailment here and there, but nothing thread ending. No need to scream "fire!" where there isn't one.

Care to explain why I still don't have the mod tag yet?

So it's essentially Gran Turismo, God of War, and maybe TLG will make it eventually. I don't consider Knack a commercial success simply because it was mass bundled. Who knows what happens with Knack 2, but the first was not a critical success and was heavily bundled, inflating its sales number.

Potentially three franchises to Microsofts one. Not exactly a good showing for either company. Nintendo trounces them both. Imho Sony is a far cry from the PS1/PS2 days. They both depend heavily on outsourced exclusives and quality games from studios they have purchased. Personally I don't care if MS wants to spend some of their massive war chest on new studios, but it seems like the industry is heading away from that.

You wouldn't have time to be a mod, with your baller life.

lol. That reminds me of Chad Warden.

Idk what ur thinking there man. Talking about sonys lineup, and them buying studios is completely off topic. I count 3 mods who are talking about completely unrelated topics. There is almost nothing posted on the original topic.

Halo MCC will sell 5+ million copies(including digital)

halo 5 will sell 10 million copies(including digital)

x1 will pass ps4 in USA, and UK.
