Forums - Microsoft Discussion - I think Microsoft will release an xbox console every three years.

I think its a once off type of deal, because PS4/XB1 arnt powerfull enough at launch, and because 4k TV started takeing off.

I dont think Xbox Two, and Playstation 5, will have mid gen upgrades.

Sooo ...

Why not grab a PC at this point if it's just for them to upgrade their console every 3/4 years just to imitate the PC way of doing ?

It's probably going to confuse the general public too.

Because not everyone wants to game on a PC like me.

Microsoft follows Sonys development schedule. You'll be fine. Sony remakes consoles every six and a half to seven years (with over ten years of support), hence why the 360 has been supported for 12 years now.

I hope they do.

7+ year generations is way too long.

When the Xbox 360 launched most PC's didn't even have PCI-E slots and the top of the line graphics card was a 7800GTX.

Fast forward to the Xbox One launch and PCI-E was at 3.1 and the 780 Ti was the latest and greatest.

There were 8 generations of GeForce graphics cards released over the 8 years between the 360 and the One.

Having to play GTA 5 in 2013 on low settings at 720p/24FPS was awful.

As long as they support the consoles for more than 4 years, the OPTION to have better hardware is a great idea.

Exactly, that is what they are doing. They have the whole surface team behind them.

Considering how "cheap" developing a new console has become it is not a big pain to make fast iterations.

Maybe... I could see that...

But then Xbox would be even MORE like a cheap PC.

i believe so, they wanted to continue the xbox brand tradition with higher specs in every 3-4 years time. I'm good with it.

I have a hard time seeing 3 years from Scorpio being the next iteration, unless it launches alongside the next PS console. If PS launches 2019, than XB will always be seen as "behind" by an entire year. Launching later then your competition usually doesn't work very well in terms of sales.
I would say waiting another 4 years and distancing themselves even more from PS would be a better idea. The more space between PS and XB launches the harder it is to compare the consoles. Unless you want to go overboard and make sure you have the best hardware at the best price from now on, but that means going back to the subsidizing game.

Wasnt the original Xbox the only Xbox that lasted four years?
