Metacritic never leads to GOTY however in this case Zelda is just so ambitious and fresh it will probably win most 2017 awards. The game is just amazing. I thought the Witcher 3 was good.. Zelda just took the RPG genre and turned it on its head.

Lets dont go there. Every time a great game comes out for a system somebody has to go to militant-like extremes just to proove a point. There is and was a thriving gaming industry before and after BotW, no need to single it out as a mnmessiah amongst games, and there is mot deffinatly no need to trample on other peoples taste and choice

BTW: for your next post, as much as BotW has every chance to be this year's GOTY I would argue that its mostly an evolutionary not a revolutionary step.

If people hate Zelda, that's fine. They can score it as low as they like but denying how important this game is whether you like it or not isn't credible. The fact Nintendo upended Zelda without pissing fans off is an achievement in itself. To manage that and still get critical acclaim deserves it's own special award.

Mosta deffinatly I agree with you. Nintendo managed to cxreate one amazing piece of software, that not many develop0ers would have been capapble of doing. But just as witrh every game, there will be people who wont find it to be amazing, just simply good. That doesnt take away from theior opinion IMO. I mean I loved TloU, but there werer plenty who didnt like it. Its an opinion they have and often they have a solid reasoning behind it. We shouldent dismiss them fort that.

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

There are a lot of great games coming this year. Game of the year is going to be a tough one to choose. There have already been a few high 80 to 90 rated games already. I will be the judge of Breath of the Wild in a little bit for myself.

A higher Metacritic score over another game doesn't mean immediate GOTY. Look at Uncharted last year with Overwatch. The former had a higher score than the latter, yet it didn't win GOTY. There's also many other games this year who might have a higher chance of getting it. Claiming journalists aren't real journalists just because they give the award to other game that's not Breath of the Wild is no better than calling them "fake news".

It's not the Metacritic people are looking at – it's what it represents. It's scores that high because most people gave it a perfect score, which means most publications will give the award to it, unless there are other perfect scores that same year.

As for the VGA's, Overwatch was a bigger success story than Uncharted 4. It was obviously going to win game of the year. Zelda has been in a quality slump for what can be argued has been over a decade. Zelda IS that very same success story. Overwatch changed the game for online shooters on consoles. Zelda changes the game for open world games, which is arguably a bigger deal. Uncharted 4 didn't change anything, it was just a really good game that hardcore fans appreciated. Unless Red Read 2, Super Mario Odyssey, or something else does something bigger than that, nothing will come close this year to Zelda, even if it's very good. It almost has an unfair advantage because it's also attached to the Switch launch.

I know! If it's not breath of the wild it will be... Some other game.

4 ≈ One

Both Breath of the Wild and Mass Effect Andromeda are both unlikely unless Super Mario and other major releases at the end of the year are highly flawed.

Wait....I am curious but what is so revolutionary about BoTW? I have not played it yet because I am waiting to buy the Switch. I mean from the reviews and gameplay I have seen it looks AMAZING. And I can't wait to play it but why do you say it is revolutionary?

Also why would Super Mario Odyssey be the only  other serious contentder? Why would no other game be able to be one outside of it?

It's truly non-linear and embodies adventure and exploration.

Though climbing has been done before, and on the face of it BOTW's climbing looks overly simplified, it ends up being much more immersive. Despite being Kotaku, this is actually a decent article on the matter:

https://www.kotaku.com.au/2017/03/breath-of-the-wild-and-the-burden-of-dreams/

Okay that was a good read and still has me excited to play the game but nothing there is revolutionary. That's why I asked because he said it was revolutionary.  None the less when i get mine this holiday I know I will love it!

Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword were evolutionary. This is on another level. Others can explain better what makes it so good but for me, as far as singleplayer goes, I can only compare this to Mario 64, Half-Life 2 and OoT and it's higher than all of them. I'm already thinking about how I'm going to play on the second go and I've never replayed a 3D Zelda from start to finish.

I didn't think videogames could be jaw dropping anymore. They can.

I've no interest in Metroid or Pokemon but if BoTW is how an open world version would look then I'm all in.

Edit:Super Mario Odyssey is the only other possible contender IF Nintendo can do to 3D Mario what they did to 3D Zelda. If it's more of the same then it shouldn't be

Again I agree from what I have seen the game looks absolutely  STUNNING but nothing revolutionary which is fine because it doesn't have to be revolutionary  to be great. While i think it will personally win the most game of the year awards I do not think it will be the only game to do so. And side note this game being better than OoT should be easy seeing as OoT is by far the most overrated game of all time and definitely was not the best Zelda game IMO lol.

Remember Bayonetta 2?... 9.5 Meta?... That year was Dragon Age a 8.9 meta game...
