Forums - Sony Discussion - Persona 5 gets 10/10 in first western review

The first review of Atlus’ hotly anticipated Persona 5 has arrived in the pages of OPM UK, with the publication awarding the JRPG a perfect score of 10/10.

Fans of the long-running franchise will be pleased to learn that this latest installment is an absolute belter, with Persona 5 described by OPM as “the most accomplished, accessible, precocious modern JRPG out there.” In fact, the magazine says it’s not only better than its predecessor, but also tops Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 15.

OPM scribe Jen Simpkins concludes, “Whether you’re a series fan, a JRPG evangelist or a total turn-based newcomer, this is an essential play. Persona 5 is packed with stuff to do, expertly put together and exquisite to the last pixel. An unabashed masterpiece.”

Nice start for Persona 5.

tag:"reviews only matter for the real hardcore gamer"

One of my favorite game series, really hope it does well sales wise.

I am excited, SMT/Persona are series that have no problem with innovation while staying true to the core of what makes them great. I have been playing a lot of P4G on my Vita and can't wait to play P5.

That's great but I fully expect those scores to come down a lot. Most mainstream publications aren't going to want to give a niche (and very Japanese) game a better score than the big, well-known franchises. Some fans would lose their minds in righteous fury. I also expect other reviewers to penalize it because they can't hack'n'slash their way to victory.

Relative to the article, if it's better than P4G then, seriously, wow.

How was the game received in Japan? Better than P4?

Famitsu score for Persona 5 was 39/40 - Persona 4 Golden was only 35/40.

I think it will get higher ratings due to how much more of a norm it is now for Japanese games to come over and not be quiet niche release.

Well, I'd like to believe that Nier proves that something niche can do that well, but it has become a bit of hipster pick as of late. P4 benefitted from that too though.
