I can't say this enough, Nintendo is a Company. I still don't get why people don't understand this. Youtubers and their fans alike continue to berate Nintendo for their youtube policies like they're the nazis. Sure, I can see a lot of what nintendo does is similar to the third Reich, they like control, but that does not mean they want to genocide anyone.
People who make videos about nintendo and use their images and IP should not be angry for being flagged, just like those who pirate music and movies should not be caught off guard when they get letters telling them to stop. If you use their IP in any way and expect money, you are no longer a fan. A fan is someone who does not require or expects monetary compensation. Once you expect to get money from your videos including Nintendo property, you have entered the business and as expected, you must deal with Nintendo to their accordance.
Their policy isn't even old, if you were to print out a Tshirt with Nathan drake, you get flagged with a ceast and desist from Sony. Youtube people have just been self entitled because everyone just lets them do as they please because of free advertisement. The argument seems to be that because Nintendo takes their revenue, that they're a bad company for it. In business, it would actually be a good move. When you're Nintendo and you have countless content creators willing to do your bidding and play your game, while at the same time people who make videos and don't expect to get paid for it(those are the real fans), and choose to implement this kind of policy, it's a good thing for the company. And Nintendo is not lacking in the free advertisement department. Do you know how much Switch unboxings there were on youtube before and post Switch release? There were so much it was begining to be nauseating looking at the same title over and over again, "Nintendo Switch unboxing" by somerandomyoutuberuser.
