Forums - Gaming Discussion - Worst things about games!

Whats are something that can ruin a good game for you?

For me it's:

Unstable frame rate

Screen tearing

Jaggies

How about you ?

Too many good games come out faster than I can play them all.

Filler.

I don't mind quiet moments to make the big moments stand out. I despise content with no purpose other than making a game longer. There's a difference.

*Edit* And lately, I've grown to despise "witty banter". It's more annoying than charming. Only Uncharted does it right. The dialog in trailers is the sole reason I never played Destiny. Keep that cool "Disney Channel kid talk" far away from me. Your character is not Aladdin.

Playing video games is not a terribly productive pastime. The illustrator draws pictures, the writer crafts stories. Gamers just play video games but there isn't much to show for it afterwards...

Loading Times are something since the PS1 I have loathed and despite all the advancements I still run into them in games. I really love games front loading a big load screen and the fact that can put PS4 in rest mode to hope back into a game like Horizon within a minute of sitting down.

Heavy handed instructions in a game that's suppose to have story. A big fourth wall breaker makes the game kinda dumb and takes me out of narrative.

Also clone character npc. I get that it's a giant pain to model every single character, but it just takes me out of it to see that I saw this guy in one town and his exact doppelganger is here too.

Loading times: lately, it seems I lose more time waiting for the game to load than actually playing and since I don't have much time to play, that's horrible. It really is a problem since PS1.

Tutorials: I don't want any kind of attempt of teaching me how to play. Don't even show me the controls. Just let me play the dawn game and learn from my mistakes. Oh, how I loved Limbo s2

Online-only games or even online-oriented games: I hate when a game that seems nice turns out to be online focused or online-only. I don't like playing online at all and some games comes with no campaign or just a small one. If it's a game for multiplayer, than give me the choice for local multiplayer.

More focus on story than gameplay: if I want a real good story, I'll read a book or watch a movie. A game's story, for me, must be only the motivation for your acts while you play, not the main aspect of the thing. I must told the story through my acts, not watch the story before my eyes and only interact with it some times (no, I'm not a big fan of Kojima or Quantic Dream games).

Save points in RPGs. God do I hate save points in RPGs.

English-only voice options in Japanese games.

Escort missions

Points of no return / Missable items and quests. Makes me feel like I need to scour the entire world before I can advance the story.

Games that feature life-sim options that mean fuck-all in the actual game story. It's annoying seeing the MC start dating or get married to someone, only for them to act like nothing changed next time the characters interact outside of sim scenes. It's awkward and immersion-breaking.

Probably others I'm forgetting, but these are the ones that bug me the most.

Intrusive DRM policies that make it a hassle just to play a game (GTA IV I'm looking at you).
