Forums - Sales Discussion - Switch Launch Sales Numbers are Manufactured?

What's next? Nintendo has been behind New World Order and the Illuminati all along?

That's just plain silly...everybody knows it was Kinect behind it.

...to avoid getting banned for inactivity, I may have to resort to comments that are of a lower overall quality and or beneath my moral standards.

I mean it is possible that Nintendo makes sure to withhold stock of systems, like the Wii, to just beat the previous Nintendo console, and then with the next console they make sure to make a little more than that to say, "Oh, we beat the Wii everywhere!" Personally, I think there may be a little of that at play, however, those sales still aren't guaranteed. If the demand isn't there it can blow up in your face when, even with the plentiful stock, people aren't buying them and there are shelves piled with them. That's a bad image in consumers' eyes. It can also blow up in your face, even if the launch part works, and demand falls off a cliff. People will then say, "So what if you beat your own launch records, nobody but your fans really wanted it."

From creating artificial demand to over supplying to beat other console FW sales

Now I've seen everything relating to the Switch

Meh..... I think nintendo bought back 1M of their switch stock to ensure there is scarcity. But to ensure the desired effect they paid off 1M people in addition to giving them the money to actually buy the console to go get them.

oh... andBotW was actually a wii game, they the waited until the switch because someone messed up the copyright filing.... true story.

That was funny! xD

well all I can say is Nintendo off to a strong start like the Vikings in 2016 lol.

Erm ok

No need to quote some random website.  Just use some common sense here.

Nintendo knows how many systems they have sold at any launch previous to the Switch.  The easy way to ensure your new system sells more than any other launch is to manufacture way more than the other launches and tell tales of sold out pre sells.  People will assue that this will be the same as all other launches of game systems and the new system will be hard to get.  They will line up to get whatever you manufacture.

So, exceeding any previous launch is almost completely up to Nintendo to decide on.  Why launch in March?  Because they did the math and they wouldn't have enough systems made to even keep them instock for Nov 2016, let alone March this year.   So, delay the launch from Nov 2016 to March 2017 and you can break all the nintendo sales records you want.  No software was probably another problem, but obviously not a big enough one to stop launching now versus 3-6 months from now.

So, the sales numbers are literally manufactured to beat all previous launches...

Nintendo can't afford to not have "the best launch ever" after the wiiU.  Give them credit for using some common sense.

So you basically made this whole story up based on no external information at all and ends with assumptions based on those non-existent facts and information? Your post would have benefitted greatly from opening with a statement that you have a wild guess instead of claiming common sense.

What's with all the negative responses?

Part of what the op said makes sense. They made more consoles this time around so they sold more.

This is clever since they can create buzz with gaming sites reporting how it's breaking records, beating even the mighty ps4. Consumers see it as a must have item to own, the way they did with ps4. Weren't there stories of people going to stores to buy an xb1 and leaving with a ps4 because of everyone else getting a ps4? Casual gamers are much more easily persuaded than most of us here.

Hype and buzz can do wonderful things for a produce. Just look at iphone. I bought a wii because everyone was talking about it. And even though I was planning on buying a psvr, I may not any time soon. Companies need to rethink their console launches.

The problem is that you are doing the same mistake as the OP, stating something unsubstantiated as fact. Where does this story come from? It originated from the OP:s own mind and is therefore the only reference point we have to go by. There are no references to any articles supporting this idea, and press releases ttat doesn´t make sense or any third party reports that would hint to this.

It sounds more like a conspiracy theory than a valid idea of why Nintendo had such a big launch.

What are you even talking about? Never did I state that this is a fact. Read the bolded instead of jumping to conclusions. Or are you gonna go through every single post and say "ha, this isn't a fact". Newsflash, most of the time we're guessing what's happening.
