[3DS] Winter Playtimes [Wii U]

Yup, I am not going to get/play any of those. "Gaming" has lost its appeal for me years ago because it's just another mass industry now (building the same formula on the same engines over and over; it's not really about spectacular new stuff and passion on the devs' side anymore (there are few exceptions, of course; I'm playing Rocket League all the time myself which is such an exception); just going the safe way because money). I still got the niche stuff and the rare modern game which feels like the way gaming was 10-25 years ago (not talking about how better graphics suck or online is boring btw, those aren't the fundamental reasons; but "back then" it was great to see what devs could do within all the limitations of the hardware).

Now I'm not even buying any new console anymore. After all, it seems gaming grew into other trends, trends that most people seem to like but I don't. Just like your favourite music artist may jump genres and you are like "omg no". And that's ok tbh.

I've been like this since the start of the 7th gen and it kept deteriorating. I think aging is the reason.

So we currently sit in the shadow of several major releases, breath of the wild, horizon zero dawn, Neir automata and Nioh, all of which are getting rave reviews, all of which people are saying are the best games in a long time.

but not a single one of which I feel any shred of desire to play, despite owning the consoles needed and having free access to all four of them, I just don't feel compelled in any way to boot one up and play it.

anyone else get that feeling?

like all things, maybe you just need to take a break and do something else.

In fact, its actually a good opprtunity to try something else for a week, or few weeks, or a month.

and then see from there if your desire to play games is just you moving on to other things or if its becasuse you just needed a break.

The last 9 months have been some of the favorite I have ever had in my 25 years of gaming. Between PS4 Pro, PSVR, Uncharted 4, and Horizon, it has been nothing but, new, unexpected, and breath taking experiences.

The only time I can remember being anywhere near this excited about gaming was the PS1/N64 era with FFVII, Metal Gear Solid, Gran Turismo, Mario 64, Donkey Kong 64, Goldeneye, and Banjo-Kazooie all shaping the future of 3D gaming.

I have definitely had my low points in gaming though. There were many times during gen 6 and 7 where I couldn't find anything wanted to play on any platform. I thnk it happens to everyone from time to time.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. I was going to make a similar thread yesterday but spared the community. Open worlds do not interest me but unfortunately every second game is that today. Horizon would need a tight story and linear progression to grab me, like Enslaved. The only open world games that I have enjoyed are Fallout 3 and New Vegas, everything else felt like waste of my time with busy work that I do not enjoy. Nier and Nioh - who are those games? I am clueless. Persona - isn't it extremely repetitive dating sim / dungeon crawler? why are so many ppl excited? The new Zelda seems like could be great adventure game, but I have played Okami 3 times... It can't possibly be better than Okami? These days I mostly play Rocket League, Thief fan missions and racing games.

Deus Ex (2000) - a game that pushes the boundaries of what the video game medium is capable of to a degree unmatched to this very day.

That's called getting older and realising it's much much easier to just sit on your phone earlier on FB or whatever then actually turn on a ps4 and Game. Which is why switch is great for me, just pick it up and booming the middle off Zelda for 20 minutes until I have to actually do something in real life. By the time I've found my TV remote, turned on ps4 swapped discs over etc that's half my 20 minutes gone lol

All those games are great but all are open world action games probably with RPG elements. The next game I'm buying, ME:A is probably near the same (but if it's like previous ME games, less open world).

Game companies don't really want to make unique experiences, they want to make their spin on what is selling more, which is why the game industry is filled with FPS and action adventure games. But this is putting it down to it's simplest forms. Zelda is very different from Nioh, after all. Completely different style and aimed at a different market. Yet even FF went for this route, open world action adventure, I wonder how it would have done if it kept it's feel on gameplay and not copied others. But alas, hindsight.

If you are not satisfied with games now, go back to playing older games for a while, find your favourite PS2 games, get your PS2 out of it's box and have a play of some great games again. I did that with Valkyrie Profile 2 and loads of PS1 classics at the end of the PS3 gen, when I got bored of games as well.

Hmm, pie.

all same. nothing new

I'd definitely play Zelda. I'm tempted to get a WiiU but they're not dropping in price. Horizon: Zero Dawn has been unappealing to me for ages though, never liked the look of it.

Gaming certainly has less appeal to me now, but it's not completely gone. I'll be getting Persona 5 after I finish my exams.
