For once I think I'll be able to keep a thread fairly short... I know a lot of people might react with hostility to this as it might be seen as heading in the wrong direction again, but I really think the Switch should have a new "Sports" title akin to Wii Sports.

The thing is, those Sports titles were, for most who played them, undeniably fun (at least when played with friends), and when reading these reviews for the 1-2 Switch you find most people referring back to those titles almost fondly, suggesting (accurately) that this new tech demo just doesn't live up to those previous tech demos.

I just really feel that, far from being merely a "gimmick", the technology they packed into these joy-cons is actually rather cool, and I wish there was a game that's actually fun (as in excluding about 75% of the 1-2 Switch minigames) that showcased all that they can do.

While it stumbled a little out of the gate with some desync issues (that many weren't even able to replicate while others, such as my favorite guy at GameXplain, was able to replicate only when intentionally trying to), it seems clear from the reviews I've read that these are the most advanced motion controls yet to come with a console (I suspect my HTC Vive controls are far superior, but they cost a fortune lol). It's entirely possible that, whereas with the first Wii Sports you had exceptionally little control over what was happening, we could now have not only an exceedingly engaging Wii Sports, but it could also make use of the HD rumble in creative ways.

I could be alone in this but I'd personally love a new Sports title and, to be honest, wish we'd gotten that instead of this 1-2 thing. Given they're generally low budget games to begin with it really doesn't seem like it's asking for a lot, and if they do want this to be a social/party machine, lord knows Sports was great for that (practically defined my dorms experience years ago lol).

So what do you think? Should they make a new sports game or leave that behind? Put out a simple game or spend some time and money on it? Lemme know :)

Wii Sports wasn't the wrong direction, it's a good supplement alongside AAA games. Unlike 1-2-Switch which most certainly is the "wrong direction." Wii Sports actually follows many traditional game conventions with challenges, medals and such.

Yes I think they should, Wii Sports was a good game for what it is and would be a welcomed addition alongside what is already coming for the Switch. I don't think they should throw all the money at it, but the next addition needs to do more for the series then Wii Sports Resort did for me, though that was likely tainted by the motion plus add-on that needed synchronizing constantly.

yeah.
i think mario sports mix should be on switch, not on 3ds...

That's the main issue that I think a lot of people have begun to remember incorrectly. Wii Sports was hugely popular and brought in a lot of casuals, the Wii lead to a mass exodus of traditional gamers, and so many seem to conflate the two and see one as leading to the other.

The truth is, if Wii Sports was one game alongside other AAA games that gamers wanted on a platform that could handle them, that exodus would not have occured. While it's not everyone's cup of tea, I think the majority of people can appreciate a little fun with something like Wii Sports in the right group.

Mario sports game should be a must. And mii-based sport games should also be ready, in case that EA does not supporting it with FIFA or Madden.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

I'd love a new Mario Strikers...

I want switch sports resort.

No it needs to sell its duel use by having "next gen" handheld titles that take advantage of big screen. Having a 3d pokemon or one in general that has a new direction when it comes to story/exploration as well as a mainline monster hunter is the way to go.

If there's demand, sure. I'm not too into sports games though so I'm indifferent.

A new Wii Sports Resort could be great actually, but I'd add some stuff to make the game more engaging:
- Let us walk around the island freely
- Miitomo integration (For clothing)
- More sports (Add the missing ones like Tennis/Baseball/Boxing that were only in the original Wii Sports)
- New name (Mostly to get rid of the Wii brand. Either Switch Sports or Mii Sports would do)

Edit: Seeing as this game is more on the casual side, Miitomo integration would actually be a great way to make people come back to the game often, and also to keep the app itself relevant).
