Forums - Sales Discussion - Switch Launch UK Numbers

It's Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 that are credited with turning the 3DS's fortunes around, not Zelda.

And also the pricecut which I believe was just before both those titles released.

Price cut was August.  Games released in November/December.  It helped, but sales still weren't amazing until the holidays.  Price cut was actually after Zelda remake came out, showing how little Zelda helped.

It's hard to know how good these numbers are. Compared to the WiiU, it's a great launch. Double the sales and with a March release. When considering it's meant to represent the merging of Nintendo's home and handheld markets though, it seems very underwhelming.

Still, this is just the UK. We need global numbers before we can get a firm idea of how its launch weekend has been.

So debuts lower then the 3DS. Also that ps4 number is massive. Nothing will come close until the ps5!

Imagine if Zelda wasn't a launch title. imo these numbers are ok at best, we will find out in the coming months

Not a good number considering it launched with Zelda.

According to this site, globally 3DS sold just about 90k (up from 70k) the week OoT3D released. I think you are exaggerating how many people rushed out to get a 3DS for that game.

The impact was not a single week. It sold consistently well after that. It was a turning point for 3ds.

No, it wasnt.

May 7-97,000

May 14-78,000

May 21-73,000

May 28-74,000

June 4-73,000

June 11-69,000

June 18-89,000 (Zelda in EU/Japan)

June 25-97,000 (Zelda in US)

July 2-92,000

July 9-77,000

July 16-96,000

July 23-80,000

July 30-58,000

I'm not sure if we're seeing different things here.

You: People rushed out to get a 3DS after Zelda released.

Me: It only had a 20k boost from the previous week.

You: It sold consistently well after that.

Me: Sales went back down to pre-Zelda sales after a few weeks.

Both of your previous statements were incorrect.

He should have included August 6th as well (36k)

Basically the 6 weeks prior to Zelda launching in EU/JPN the average sales per week was around 77k.

The average per week for the 6 weeks after the Zelda Launch (in USA) was around 73k.

He's right, OoT: 3D's release really didn't mark the turning point of the 3DS.
