Forums - Sales Discussion - Switch Launch UK Numbers

Considering that we kept hearing people here argue that the switch would do much better than the wiiu because its audience will be both wiiu AND 3ds owners, I think these numbers are pretty bad. At least to those people, unless of course they change their narrative for some reason.

I, personally, think they're ok, since it seems that Ninty will be able to sell enough Switches to have a large enough installbase to sell millions of 1st party games.

There is nothing yet on the Switch that would make 3DS owners buy it. So naturally those sales will not show up in the launch numbers. 3DS owners will jump once the 3DS stops being supported and the first 3DS IPs hit the Switch. As such it's currently irrelevant if the Switch is a hybrid or a home console.

Decent launch for one of Nintendo's weaker markets at a down time of the year - though only shows one tiny microscopic fragment of what will be the whole picture. Just look at DS sales first week for instance. We'll need to see how this thing does in worldwide for about a year on the market to truly tell how successful it'll be.

Haven't bothered to go through the third and fourth pages, but I'm pretty sure that the DS launched in March in the UK. Switch is only off by 7,000 when compared to it, so its definitely off to a decent start.

Why would a 3ds owner who rushed to buy a 3ds when that Zelda remake launched not want to buy a Switch?

because 3ds has backward compatibility. 3ds appeals to those who on the verge of buying NDS. More importantly, 3ds was claimed as NDS successor from nintendo (unlike switch)

Not good, not bad. More like a wait and see situation.

The Switch is sold out everywhere in the UK. I know a few people personally who want to buy one after seeing Zelda for themselves, and are having to wait for the stock to replenish. I'm going to assume ~80k is what Nintendo allocated for launch here/

How many did rush to get it though?I don't think the Switch is at the moment a very good value proposition for the pampered 3DS owner. They will come eventually but for now the launch numbers tell us absolutely nothing about LT sales.

Many. You may wanna look up the numbers. I don't know how to access them myself.

so why did so many wait until the Zelda remaster launched to buy it? That would be a reason for people to buy a 3ds regardless of Zelda. And we know that after its initial good sales, it struggled to sell well. The 2 things that showed that it had a chance to do well were its sales after the price cut and its sales after Zelda launched.
