Forums - Sales Discussion - Horizon Zero Dawn beats Zelda to No.1 in UK ( PS4’s biggest ever new IP launch)

Here’s the UK Top 10 for the week ending March 4th:

  1. Horizon Zero Dawn (Sony)
  2. (...)

I have one question, Sh1nn :) I think it's sad and a little unfair for exclusive games.. when the European charts or the US charts count the multi-games together.
Is there somewhere a list where all the games are individually listed?
Would be really great for the future.. both lists.

Yeah but that's taking things out of context. The Wii U sold 40k first week so the Switch did double that. It didn't launch during the holiday season and the article says it was sold out at most major retailers and there weren't many units stuffed into the channel.

So no, that's not pretty bad. It's not amazing either (the PS4 launch was amazing) but it was a solid launch when compared to other Nintendo consoles in the UK.

WiiU's launch was disastrous. it being sold out for the most part is good, but units allocated for the market on launch might indiciate nintendo didnt see much demand for the console and opted to send units else where. either way, selling about half the XB1's launch isnt really a good number, its a market improvement over the WiiU certainly, but it isnt really something impressive.

legs are what are important now, how it holds up and continues selling. if it doesnt drop much next week and holds its legs, launch week wont be that important.

The Wii did around 105k so it's not the worst launch. It's a solid launch and seems sold out many places.

Obviously it limits the sale numbers for Zelda as well which is the saddest thing about it :(

we will see next week how it performs. but compared to the rest of the market and other console launches its pretty bad. Wii was heavily supply constrained and its numbers following its release show that. lets see how this plays out. but as it stands, 80k is pretty poor when PS4 did 250k and XB1 150k.

That is only 1 day of Switch sales to be fair. If it'd been a whole week of Zelda vs whole week of Horizon, I bet Zelda would've won.

Nintendo is always weak in the UK rest of the world is what matters.

Still numbers are pathetic compared to Ps4 lol

Guess which console has the bigger user base at the moment.

54 million customers on PS4 vs 13 million on Wii U and less than 2 million on Switch.

So,  who can sell their software the most?

why didn't the wiiu zelda version sell more than the switch version? the wiiu must have sold more than 80000 units in the uk.

Interesting that sales of Zelda is so heavily skewed in favor of the Switch version, the people at my local Webhallen told me the same thing; pre-orders for Zelda on Switch were high enough that they wouldn't really have enough for everyone and certainly nothing in the store for walk-in purchase but they more than enough for Wii U.
I'm getting more and more certain that the vast majority of the Switch pre-orders were in fact Wii U owners upgrading, which makes things really interesting in many different ways.

More OT: Sounds like a good launch, US and UK are good markets for games like these. I've put down quite a few hours on Horizon myself, it's pretty good but suffers from the same issues as most open world games when all is said and done and the story that so many have praised is actually paper-thin. But the gameplay is good!
