Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Is Breath of the Wild really that good?

Have you ever played a game that you couldn't stop playing? A game that makes you say to yourself, "just one more hour", and six hours later you still want to explore more. Zelda: BOTW is such a game.

Hey! They got SONY on my amiibo! Wait a minute. Two great gaming tastes that game great together!

I've got about 6 hours in-game. I like it. But, it is not impressive at all graphically. There are frame drops all the time. I haven't experienced this much stuttering in a AAA game in a while. So, it has to lose a point at least for that.

At this point, I'll give it an 8.

Note also that I'm playing on WiiU, which reports indicate had fewer frame rate problems than Switch.

Isn't it the other way around?

Not from what I've read.  Resolution is better on Switch, but apparently frame rate problems are more prevalent.

Don't write things off as just trolls. From the honest reviews i've seen, what happens is that the game became a typical open world game. Light on story, open ended and with repetitive tasks.

I myself am a bit burned out of that type of game. I don't dislike them if i'm on the right mood, but it can get quite pointless and boring.
I am pretty sure that the highest scores are not honest, if not only for the technical issues. But it certainly isn't a game as revolutionary as Ocarina of time. Whoever tells you that is just trying too hard.

It is what it is. You know it won't be a bad game, but don't go expecting it to be ocarina the second coming. This type of game existed before Zelda did it.

Agreed with this statement, while the game is truly amazing in my opinion it doesn't really do anything new or unique; is just extremely well done and better than other open world games in my opinion.

Digital Foundry said that the frame drops are about equally prevelant between the Wii U and the docked Switch, except they happen at different areas. The issue is likely caused by memory management.

The Switch version in handheld mode has no drops.

So the Switch version is the definitive in both framerate and resolution.

The physics system is quite developed, and not just for an open-world game, but games in general. That is new and unique.

Plus the integration in horse taming, cooking mechanics, etc are based more closely on real-world intuition and logic than most games.

The non-linear main story is a mainstay from 2D Zelda games, but besides Dark Souls very few series implement this.

All together, I think the game is more revolutionary than the standard evolution from 2D to 3D that was going to happen anyway, regardless of whether or not TLoZ accomplished it

That's the first report I've heard of that.  Regarding framerate, here's what the general consensus seems to be, from best to worst:  Switch handheld, Wii U, Switch docked.

In any case, the framerate issues are significant. I just can't see how a reviewer could give the game a perfect score, even if everything else is perfect.  Because, by virtually all reports, framerate is not even close to perfect.

I could give you a long list of reasons why this game is great. I'll simply reply "yes" ... it's that good

Feel free to check out my stream on twitch

The first game that made me go "WOW" was Mario 64 because it was the true 3D gaming experience. Then Zelda for the 64 was also the best Zelda I had played. The BotW is literally that good. I have not felt this amazed with a game. there are tons of good games out there, but this one is just beyond belief.
