Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Is Breath of the Wild really that good?

I think the 7.8 user reviews are because idiotic fanboys/girls are giving it a 0 lol. Overall though its def a great game, maybe 10/10, but def a very enjoyable game I'd think. I wouldn't buy the switch to play only it though.

I wouldn't worry too much if you've never played Zelda before, I'd only ever played Phantom Hourglass and a few hours of OOT before BOTW and I'm loving it.

Did you perhaps read the user reviews? They're from salty people who just don't want Zelda to get attention or praise. Their reviews have no substance, always give 0-2, and have sentences that don't make sense and are filled with profanity.

Listen to reviews that matter. All I can say is I'm having a blast with it so far. It's the most fun I've had playing a game in a long time. There's so much content, it's addicting and easy to get distracted. I love it. It isn't perfect, there is framerate issues and some issues I have with inventory management but it's a bloody fine game.

User scores are not reliable for the most part so I wouldn't use them to judge a game.

Yes, It's really, REALLY good.

Now, IMO Witcher 3, Skyrim, Dragon Age Inquesition were all better, but i prefer the hardcore RPG elements (and your looking at 3 GOTY winners there).  Also Horizon Zero Dawn is close.

BOTW will likely win GOTY, and its deserving.

I think the main thing is once you reach something like 98 people can always find a reason for it not being THAT high as, really, that's an insanely high score. With being the best comes additional scrutiny, whether it's a game, a movie, an athlete and so forth.

That said, it's undeniably an amazing game; the score, while fun to track, really isn't important, and you can be assured that you're almost guaranteed to enjoy it should you get it. I would suggest watching the reviews on youtube as there's something gained in actually listening to them discuss it... you can hear in their voice just how amazing the experience was for them.

I don't know if it's worth the 98, but definitely a 90+ game and a must-have if you own a Wii U or a Switch. Don't think it's worth buying a Switch for yet though ;)

It is a good game, I would give a score of 90/100 so far after over 20 hours of gameplay (8 hearts, just reached the first village after entering Hyrule castle and exploring half of the map). It has flaws (no heart pieces, no signature Zelda Items, no Metroidvania style gameplay, almost no music,  bad, inconvenient menus with low usability, weapon durability, cooking, framerate / slowdown, low texture quality, high difficulty, simple mini dungeons that can take half an hour just to solve a single crazy puzzle, simple single button mashing combat with not much need for the advanced features, stealth elements) but you get used to it.

It is getting better the longer you play.

I can't believe you're knocking BoTW for high difficulty. Kinda ironic since fans were hoping for more of a challenge in Zelda.

Also, some of the things you've mentioned were cons were built by design. Whether you like it or not, this part of their initiative to steer away from the Zelda formula and redefine Zelda while still maintaining the identity that it is still Zelda.

Yes, definitely. Easily the best game I've ever played since Grand Theft Auto V. This is coming from someone who thinks that all the other Zeldas are wildly overrated. The shrines are unique and not just copy pasted rooms like one would expect. The physics engine is just phenomenal. The difficultly is just right, while the tutorial lasts like 30 seconds. Ability to go to ganon right away is insane in a good way. After the Plateau, the level of freedom you're given is just astounding.

Bet with Intrinsic:

The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.

I haven't met anyone that said this game is not good. In my experience, I cannot play most games for more than 30 minutes at a time, I get sleepy and bored, so I spend most of my gaming time thinking about what I want to play than actually playing. The last game I could play for more than 30 minutes at a time was Witcher 3, which I consider one of the 5 best games of all time, before that, The Last of Us. Breath of the Wild is right there with those games for me, it's a game I start to play at 7 PM to only realize I was playing for hours at 4 AM. It is that good. I guess because it's an exclusive game, some people can't accept it, especially because they can't play it, but it is that kind of magic masterpiece that only happens once or twice a year.

And it's a good Zelda game. I simply can't stand Skyward Sword, Twilight Princess or even Wind Waker.
