Is this what VGChartz is going to be now? Nintendo fans necrobumping of people having legitimate concerns over Nintendo selling a $300 console/ handheld hybrid as some kind of smarmy "I told you so" moment?

The Switch isn't even a year old. It's got a long ways to go, and Nintendo still has to play a lot of its cards right in order to keep the momentum going and built on the initial success.

Fixed that for you.

I have a Switch. It's very clearly a handheld portable first and foremost, and the home console/ tabletop experience is clearly an afterthought after using it for a month. The home console experience out of the box is tedious at best, and very underwhelming at worst.

So yeah, I'll keep calling the Switch a handheld, thanks. Nintendo almost definitely isn't making a 3DS replacement because they already did.

Call it whatever you want, it doesn't stop Nintendo from marketing it as both. And data shows that most people use it as both. And sales show that the hybrid concept is what's selling it. So keep calling it whatever, facts don't change anything. Enjoy your Switch.

I "use it as both" too in the sense that it's there and sometimes I don't feel like staring at the little screen. It's convenient that it comes with a TV dock, but frankly I would have rather it came dockless and cost $50-$80 less.

How do sales show that the hybrid concept is what's selling it?

But I have a switch too. It’s very clearly a home console first. The handheld experience is clearly an afterthought after using it for a month. The handheld experience is tedious at best and very underwhelming at worst.

See how just saying that proves absolutely no point?

Because A: The marketing is centered around it, it's not positioned as anything else and B: demographics data show that it used as it was marketed. It's that feature that is selling it as it is.

No, see I actually have reasons for thinking it. Reasons such as - there is no means of charging the joy cons out of the box except on the Switch itself. When i opened my Switch, the joy cons were practically dead. I set it up on the tv, popped my joycons into the controller dock, popped in Splatoon 2, played two rounds and my right joycon died. Right then I had two choices - play in handheld mode or stop playing altogether. Does that seem like the kind of user experience that screams "we feel the console experience is just as important as the handheld experience" to you? Because it doesn't to me.

If you want to argue that the home experience is better than the handheld or tabletop one out of the box, I'll be happy to hear it.
