It has sold 80,000 units in the UK, doubling WiiU debut but with lower numbers than PS4 and XBox One. http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2017-03-06-strong-start-for-nintendo-switch-in-the-uk

Considering it's launching in March, that it has sold out in some stores and that UK is one of Nintendo weakest markets I would say that it's not too shabby, although it's too soon to consider it a success or a failure.

It really doesn't matter when it launches. It will always pretty much sell out of stock at launch. Unless its a realy really really bad console. And as long as there aren't like 5M consoles at launch.

In the 6 weeks following their launch, PS4/XB1 went on to sell around 4M consoles each. I expect the NS to at least do around 2.5M-3M in the same amount of time. But I still believe its just too early to tell if its a hot item or just something th faithfuls are picking up.

I suppose that if the launch were in November Nintendo would have allocated more consoles, not only for launch but for the following weeks...

Official retailers here in Brazil are selling the Switch for BRL 3.000,00 (that's like 10x the price in the US)

So yeah, don't expect this thing to sell well at all here, at least for now

The launch wasn't very well done. After people finish Zelda, things are gonna get very slow until Splatoon 2 launches and meh sales in between major releases.

They really should've waited to launch this in the holidays. They would've been able to get more games at launch and to actually allow for some time between announcement and release to get people interested in the Switch.

The SNES launched with 5 games in the US and the N64, only two. The Wii U? Over 30 titles.

Launch lineups have very little impact on a consoles fortunes as long as there's one huge game and Zelda is beyond huge.

Thats implying the launch allocation number is determined by the launch month as opposed to manufacturing capacity.

The latter is more important to the number of available consoles at any hardware launch.

Look at it this way, if nintendo got 2M consoles to market on day one and those consoles sold out. Then over a period 6 weeks follwing launch they got an additional 1.5 consoles to market and those also sold out too. What that basically means (regardless of the month it launched in) is that if they got 3.5M units on day one of launch to market all those would have sold out too.

Just know that if nintendo could manufacture 3M NS units and have them available at launch they would have done so. Doesn't matter if they released in march or in november/december.

in London Switch is everywhere.
Tube ads, Bus ads, posters...

Its sold out everywhere how is this quite?

Nintendo launches arent like their competition. They ship less in an effort to gain buzz off of scarcity. Sony doesnt use scarcity to create buzz, they create buzz by selling to as many people as they can. Its the exact opposite.

They said they ship 2M for the launch. How is that creating an artificial scarcity?

Well they shipped 2 million units and its all sold out. How is selling 2 million units "quite"

Wii U did similar. Understanding history is why I am not flinching towards Nintendo, but I cant say I havent felt a tinge of impulse.

PS4 launch added together has around 2M units (a bit more), but it was staggered, Europe later than NA and Japan came many weeks later. So in one week Sony provided even less units than Nintendo (1 million for NA launch). Is Sony producing artificial scarcity? Or have all manufacturers probably problems to deliver on initial demand? It is clear, that after two-three months if the dust has settled the manufacturers have a much easier time to mathc the demand, but launch can for everyone somewhat tight. That's no specific Nintendo-phenomenon. Let's wait some weeks until the dust has settled, that says a lot more how the weekly and monthly sells go in the after-launch-time.

I think this Zelda is time consuming and though you wanna share stuff, you don't wanna spoil your comrades.
Yet people share screenshots on social medias. They just play so much all their regular time of browsing around is consummed.
