Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Does the Public Know About the Nintendo Switch?

People I know don't normally talk about video games but when I mention the Switch it seems that people acknowledge its existence, I've seen some ads on TV too.

Only the gamers in my area know, but the rest of the public seems to have no clue.

Semi gamers at my job talk about it(I work at t mobile), and like it and think it being portable is cool, but I've asked customers about it and they don't know what it is, but when I mention PlayStation they say of course we know that. I mention Nintendo and they know Nintendo just not the switch..... that's a problem imo, they keep changing their big name.... Someone can think Nintendo and see a n64, someone else could see a wii, another could see a Ames..... when you say PlayStation, saying 1 or 2 will let u know how yea 1 has to be the old one..... we'll see what happens, I continue to believe switch will sell to Core Nintendo fans mostly

Totally anecdotally both sister and niece both know about and want one... Neither are heavy console gamers but my niece has a 3ds and they both sometimes play on my wii u when they come around.

tbh half of them didn't even look like they cared about gaming in general. when there is something that does not interest me my mind automatically filters it out, I don't remember 95% of commercials that air.

so 10 people on this video vs 30,000,000+ views on switch trailers. How is this video realistic? of course normal people that are not gamers don't pay attention, but this video is not a realistic percent when we are talking about billions of people and millions of gamers and consumers. To be honest I see the video as a funny video and not as a realistic percent.

The more important and interesring question is if said public would buy one. Most non Nintendo fan gamers I know are not interested in the slightest, and the non gamers I know don't even know what it is.

I think nintendo counts on users/early adopters promoting it by simply bringing it to school or other events. The social component (local multiplayer) that they are heavily promoting in the trailers could bring the popularity with the right software (1-2 switch isn't it, maybe for the most casual users, but it needs propagation from the early adopters first or it should be a pack-in).

So, maybe when local mario kart "tournaments" start everywhere people will be inclined to get one.

.

UK has had ads, so the public know but they are selling to fans first, they'll ramp up the ads later in the year before Chrimbo for the public.

Hmm, pie.

My only experience talking about the Switch with others was kind of amusing.

My small cousin was giving me a lecture about the best and worst Pokemon on Pokemon GO. She told me that Mew 2 is the absolute worst (!) Pokemon, then paused for a moment, so I took the chance to ask if she wanted a Switch.

She looked up from her mom's phone and gave me this absolute "what are you talking about" blank stare then went back to her lecture.

Her mom asked if I was talking about a new smart phone. When I explained, she just shrugged and said she hadn't heard her daughter mention it. It kind of bugged me, too, as she briefly had a "what a silly question" look cross her face, like I'd suddenly asked if she was getting a mutant head or a pack of spicy cornballs.
