there were a lot of people waiting at Best Buy when I went, and they seemed like an array of individuals. Obviously gamers, sure, but there are hundreds of millions of gamers in the world.

Lets put it this way: a girl I'm seeing who doesn't dig video games AT ALL heard me bring up the Switch for the first time the other day and was like "omg my friend was telling me about that" (her friend not being a gamer either).

I think it might be the effect of some of the trendy online advertising and video advertising Nintendo has done (cough, Jimmy Fallon is huge, the Super Bowl ad, Caseyneistat, etc.)

a random video asking the public though is possibly a terrible example though because there is always going to be a large subset of society who don't game and don't know ANY games or systems.

Its sort of like how the majority of people in the USA might know who is playing in the Superbowl come February, but I don't follow football and generally won't have a clue. You might randomly ask a bunch of people "who's playing in the Super Bowl" and get plenty of puzzeld responses but that doesn't necesarily really speak towards how viewership will end up.

the reality is plenty of somewhat casuals AND plenty of serious gamers will have come into contact with the Switch at this point from the ads though. bear in mind a system only needs to attract a very small fraction of overall people to be a big success

Well, I live in Brasil and Nintendo does not support my country anymore, so basicly only my "gaming" friends and another ones who are all into technology know or about the Switch.

If they don't know, they will.

Video was funny but I think it was more about the host making jokes to strangers rather than gauging actual awareness.

I Canada, that's for sure. I mean, everybody I talk to knows about it at least. So I would assume there is a good awareness of the Switch.

Actually, my only surprise was my 12 y old boy this morning when I shared with him that I found one on Amazon and that we will receive it on Tuesday... His only comment was something like: "what is that? Is that related to Ghost Recon Wildland that is coming out on Tuesday"... This kid needs to get out and give a break to his Xbox One :)

In the UK i haven't seen a single ad.
on youtube its always Horizon or 'Trading 2-1-2'.
On busses its literally always Horizon.

i dont watch any live TV though so maybe Nintendo are advertising there

Nope, at least not from where I live.

Havent seen a single ad in both singapore and hongkong, except in game stores. In greece and spain, the marketing also seems very small compared to PS and FIFA.

In my experience, nope. None of my close friends or co workers talk about it (then again, they aren't much for console gaming)

Isn't this just a bit worrying? The wii u had the same issue, and eventually flopped after launch. Nintendo should be marketing this thing more, but I guess they're just pulling another Nintendo with this one...

Oh, I know more people who know how to use find the divergence of a given vector function in Cartesian, cylindrical, and spherical coordinate systems; than people who know of and are interested in the Nintendo Switch.

It's not really a hard feat given that my major pretty much requires that anyone studying it knows of how to perform that feat, but it's still a rather negative sign nonetheless.
