Updated the build quality section with other examples of that battery plate gap on systems in reviews, there are likely many, many more but those are just ones i found with a quick look on youtube.

Is there light bleed through the gap? I have a Kindle Paperwhite which has a gap in the front between the bezel and the back cover, most glaring when the light shines through it.

thankfully not, but it's exactly where the battery is, as you can see from this image:

Makes me worry if the issue is the battery expanding, if so that is not a good sign.

The battery size must be at the design limit. Not sure why the have that additional padding.

Although it may look like shoody Chinese quality, it's better that the housing can deform to accomodate this... look at what happened to Samsung's Note 7, the battery space had zero tolerance which resulted in combusted devices.

the tolerances in the note7 were not really why they messed up, the batteries are not supposed to expand, the note7 issue was more related to the battery itself being deformed during installation and insulative layers between two portions not being used, if an additional screw or clip was used to prevent the plastic from bulging out on the switch it would not effect the battery at all, it just wouldnt look like a chinese knockoff.

Personally I think they used foam to prevent any moment of the battery but the thickness of the rear panel wasnt enough to remain ridgid enough that the nearby screws would hold everything properly in place, and so the foam backing on the battery deforms the rear cover and causes the gap.

I don't think its fair to criticise the lack of software available. Surely every one knew that. It has one absolutely amazing game and a lot of filler games.

I disagree, beyond Zelda there is very little worth actually buying, and if you're not a zelda fan, then the launch lineup is dire, but as i clearly state, that will, in time, change.

My point was if you've bought the console then surely you have looked at the available software before hand, there isn't much else you can do with the console so considering you have actually bought the console most people would already have found the console desirable to buy based on its software. As a wii u owner who isn't into small indie games and doesn't like to pay over the odds for software the Switch is undesirable at this point for me so I haven't got one. It's like buying a microwave oven and then while reviewing the oven complaining that you have always hated food cooked in a microwave which begs the question why did you buy the microwave then.

  • Thumbsticks - This is of course a personal preference, but I genuinely hate the analog thumbsticks, the motion in them just doesn't feel right, as if the pivot point for the stick itself is too high, very easy to go from center to fully pressed in a direction, not so easy to do so gradually.

I've read about the same in other reviews, the thumbsticks seem to be quite crappy. One Zelda review I read even strongly recommended buying the pro controller because he felt that playing Zelda with the joy-cons is extremely frustrating.

  • Why the fuck do companies insist on charging the same for digital as they do for physical?, there is no physical media to make, no boxes to ship, no logistics, no shipping manifests and no manuals to print, so why in the shit do companies still feel like they should charge the exact same for digital-only titles as they do for physical? digital games should launch at, *AT LEAST* $5 less than their physical retail counterpart.

On german Amazon, the WiiU digital version is actually exactly 5 Euros more expensive that the physical version.

Im not surprised @ other people complaining about the analog sticks, as for being more expensive for digital versions.. man.. the industry is greedy as fuck.

It's a hardware review from the stance of someone who is indifferent about particular consoles, if it was the ps4's launch and there were only a small handful of games i'd be criticizing the ps4's launch lineup too, none of what you are saying changes that, and your comparison isn't accurate at all.

The launch lineup is weak, that's all there is to it - it isn't a slight of any particular game, or the system as a whole for the rest of it's existance, it is exactly and plainly as i stated, the launch lineup - to break that down, launch - what's available at launch, lineup - the selection of games available, which at this present time is slim.

I heard that the system is draining faster than charging itself when using a powerbank, is this true? Also some reviewers said that if you play in docked mode, the system will never be charge to 100%. Can you please test this for us?

I don't have a USB power bank to test it with, however I've read that the battery drains while playing zelda, when the system is in docked mode (and connected to hdmi out/power), which suggests the increased speed for TV mode isn't offsetting the power supplied by the charger.

Ultimately, unless they fix that, it means that you could sit and play zelda for a few hours, pick it up to go play it in portable mode and find you have a battery that isn't fully charged - I haven't confirmed this for myself yet, but it's what I've been hearing.

Pretty informative, good read, thanks NATO.
