Lord have mercy on my soul, that's beautiful.

Precisely why I won't really ever listen to people claiming that anything "blows that away".

Currently, no games do.

Well i'm certainly in agreement with you on that point. I can understand someone believing another game looks better, but to say anything blows it away just seems silly. I'd likley be playing said game right now

So when you say anotehr game blows HZD away then it actually will?.

I'm finding it really random how no matter what CR studio does with SC, it will never ever amount to whatever HZD has done, and somehow BF a multiplat title leads over SC?.

I know you have the whole agree to disagree, but man do I completely disagree from one side of this rock to the other. I'm well aware that you've played SC, but I've also seen others playing it as well as hearing their impressions and to those people, SC blows them awaym hell the majority that funded the studio were blown away by the scope and general footage, unless of course they funded it but never cared or were not anywhere as itnerested in the game, but that would seem all the more confusing as to why they would even fund said game if it didn't have anything going for it compared to another title that's completely different in scope and technology.

I'm starting to wonder when you'll say that PC has got a mind blowing visual experience that isn't just a mere demo of an engine. Part of me wants to say within the enxt 2-3 years, but I'm thinking longer, maybe if at all, outside of multiplat titles which are slightly better looking, but confined to what current gen systems can handle with less exclusive technologies being used for the higher end hardware.

SC has some amazing technology backing it, but I don't consider the overall package visually mind blowing. For all its amazing tech, it often (especially when indoors) makes inefficient use of it. The end result is something i often find bland and uninspired. The end product may be different, there are certainly parts of the game that already look genuinely stunning, but overall its use of tech feels very inconsistent. It feels like a game that's trying to brute force its way to looking nice/

I can understand why someone would disagree, just as i value the tech side of games more than many, there will be others who value tech even more (and the art is obviously subjective), but the end result for me is the same.

Don't get me wrong, even at its blandest i still think SC is a damn nice looking game, but rarely would i say it "blows away" Horizon as an overall visual package.

Like you said, the art is subjective, but I would also like to  add that so is the feeling of being blown away. You and I are blown away by completely different tech, art styles, and ideas.

There are some parts of HZD that look nice, but I've also seen parts that other games have executed as well. To you, HZD blows you away, but to me it's more SC that does based upon the scope, visuals, tech and cast behind it, as well as the fans, the people who helped make the game a reality, as no other big AAA publisher thought there was a good enough market for space sim action games for PC.

We seem to be on the same page then. You just appeared to be confused as to how someone could not believe SC's visuals "blow away" Horizon's, so i thought i'd add my opinion.

And i should note, while i do think Horizon is one of the prettiest games I've ever played, I don't think its king in either art or tech. I've seen plenty of other games that achieve their own visual goals just as effectively. I just don't believe any of those games are so far ahead that they "blow away" Horizon.

I wouldn't say confused, I'm more fixated about the technology that went into SC and what it's been able to accomplish. The fact that we have ships in a game set in outer space that can be blasted inch by inch, or being able to house multiple players in real time onboard a single ship, going from a space station to landing ona  planet, all in real time without loading screens or being attached to a seat like every other multiplayer FPS game out there, is something that blows me away quite a bit. Yet seeing some vegetation that's already decent with the likes of Crysis (to this day even) and battlefront/BF1, as well as some texture work apparently is enough to blow one away over other tech that has a bigger scope.

I know you don't think others blow away HZD, but then what does that make that game to others?,not every game is equal, just like our lives and what we do with them as not being equal down to the middle.

According to Digital Foundry, water along with interactive vegetation, were most likely compromises that needed to be made in order to sustain a solid 30fps.

GG couldn't squeeze any more juice out.

The irony is... Far Cry on the original Xbox had interactive water and vegetation.

When you consider the careful level of balancing that went into the presentation of this game and understand that it was a deliberate choice made by the developers I don't really find it ironic. There's a reason this game looks as good as it does.

It is always interesting to see where the focus of developers resources lie, especially with earlier games released on a system. They tend to be much less optimzied and have areas that are really well done and others that are severely lacking. See the glass effects in Resistance Fall of Man for example, or the mud in Motorstorm.

As the industry tech keeps advancing going forward, I feel we will see less and less of particular games with an unusal tech focus. Games are simply getting more all around polish, and less systems are being ignored. (Not that we don't have other problems with rushed products).

Also, trying to think back now, did it? Which Far Cry, Instincts or Evolution?

The tech has been around for ages anyway.

I'm not aware that either me or CGI have said Battlefront or Horizon blow SC away, we just don't believe the reverse.

Which is why my last part was about setting things apart from one another, rather than forcing everything into the middle.

With the Scorpio Rumoured to have 12GB of GDDR5X I am guessing after its release most of the graphically best games will be those versions.

Gears of War 5, Forza Horizon 4 and Halo 6 should be graphical powerhouses.

From the PS4 front, The Last of us 2, Death Stranding and God of War should all be lookers. Gran Turismo Sports might look good but I personally dislike the 30fps they are aiming for and I also count that towards graphics.

I thought that was targeting 60fps? What I've seen of the game certainly wouldn't justify 30fps. It looks nice, but not 'new hardware and half the frame-rate' nice.
