Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Zelda Players, Let's Make a No Guides Pledge/Group

Oh boy oh boy oh boy today's finally the day.

And I'm in.

I never used a guide for Zelda, not even with Zelda 1 and 2. Figuring all these things out for yourself is half the fun! I'll probably get the guide anyway though, at some point. Because I love those kinds of books, I also need to get the new artwork book soon. I won't look in it any further than up to the point I progressed in the game obviously, if I get it before I finish the game. Though this might be tricky because of the unlinear nature of the game. Best not to look at all just to be safe then.

Ironically, I was unable to get a Switch until earlier tonight when I saw that there was a new bundle available on Gamestop's website which includes Zelda and the Zelda strategy guide, so literally hours after pledging not to touch one I bought one lol

I'll just close my eyes and store it away or something.

I just want the best experience possible for a game that can potentially become one of my most favorite games.Plus my gamepad battery by now is simply a joke, and I hate to keep recharging it every 100 minutes or so

I'm playing on U, as I can't justify the Switch for this one game.  I'm not looking forward to the game pad battery issue though.

Oh, Im also getting it due to Oddyssey, XC 2, and a pair other smaller games and the promise of other big games in the future. And by the time I have the chance to buy one(which would be July), hopefully more great games are announced in the E3, so yeah its not only because of Zelda.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

No guide here! I never ruin the experience with a guide for the first run through.
It took me 75 hours to muddle through Twilight Princess without any help.

So you guys don't search what your're looking for convinently on the internet, where there's an infinite amount of content, but instead ask to a restricted group of 16 people?

I mean, I could understand if you would want to solve everything on your own, but the way you put it makes no sense for me at all...

Game of the year 2017 so far:

5. Resident Evil VII
4. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
3. Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
2. Horizon Zero Dawn
1. Super Mario Odyssey

Essentially, it's an effort to experience how one used to go through those games where you did most of the discovering on your own and occasionally shared some of what you've found with a few others who were likewise working their way through it. That's very different from the exacting, detailed descriptions that can rocket you through a game easily found on the internet.

As for these allegations that I bought the official strategy guide, NAYETH, I did not!... I bought the only available bundle that JUST SO HAPPENED to include, AGAINST MY WILL AND PREFERENCE, the official strategy guide.

Totally different, and I shall not be using it :D

Might try to pop it up on eBay or something; I already managed to stand next to the damn thing waiting in Walmart for over an hour without looking through it so I have faith in my clearly unshakable resolve to spurn all outside assistance for this game.

I am only on the list because I said it's good to have a discussion thread for the game.

Also, the OP already backstabbed the cause by buying an official strategy guide.

The way I see it, the pledge is more like a goal - try to figure it out on your own, like you would have had to do 25 years ago.  Its not that you should simply give up on the game if you get stuck somewhere.  Of course, if you really can't figure it out, look it up.  But, rather than sitting on the couch with a walkthrough open on a tablet sitting next to you, just try to figure it out on your own, so you can experience the game like you experienced Zelda's in years gone by.

At least, that's how I'm doing it.

Heart or Stamina?

I got heart the first time, about go get something else. What is your opinions?

I'm in. To appreciate Zelda, you can't use guides. I don't have the game yet, but I will at some point.
