Final Fantasy 7 remake of spin-offs on PS4 unlikely, says Square Enix

We can pretty much trash the idea of a Final Fantasy 7 remake of some of the popular spin-offs, including the Crisis Core, Dirge of Cerberus, and Before Crisis compilation.

Square Enix’s Tetsuya Nomura has poured cold water on any hopes of seeing high-definition remakes of Final Fantasy 7’s expanded universe titles.

The critically acclaimed 1997 RPG has received numerous spin-off titles that have expanded the narrative of the fan-favorite title, including Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 on PSP, Dirge of Cerberus for PS2, and the mobile offering Before Crisis: Final Fantasy 7. Collectively, these titles and related media are known as Compilation of Final Fantasy 7.

However, while a HD collection of these games would seem like a no-brain in light of the Final Fantasy 7 remake on PS4, Nomura-san has said that it’s unlikely to happen.

Concerning Final Fantasy VII Remake, which is a title loaded with a lot of mystery for now,  it will be different from the original Final Fantasy 7. If we make a compilation, these games will hardly have an overall coherence. It will be difficult because there is no more continuity between the Compilation and the Remake for the moment,” Nomura told Finaland.

Crisis Core was originally released on the PSP back in 2008 and is a prequel that features SOLDIER member Zack, who was the first wielder of Cloud’s iconic Buster Sword. Dirge of Cerberus starred Vincent Valentine and takes place three years after the events of FF7, while Before Crisis focuses on the adventures of the Turks in events that transpire six years prior to the 1997 classic.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake is currently in production for PS4 and has been confirmed to be a multi-part series. Right now, it’s unknown what the game will hit stores, although Square Enix has indicated the title won’t be released for a while yet. Despite this, full voice recording has recently wrapped, so there’s still hope that we may see the game sooner rather than later. The game will employ a more action-based combat system and will also feature new areas of Midgar not featured in the original game.

Why don't we just wait for the actual remake to come within 5 years

Was anyone expecting (or even wanting) this? I kind of feel like we'll be lucky to get FF7 remake this generation as it is.

Wait, so then why would they need to divide FFVII into multiple parts? Are they really going to add that much content into the base game?

because HD ports of those games are not exactly the most difficult things to get released.

But its basically a new game from scratch. It wont be a simple HD port

I can picture it now: FFVII takes too dam long so they need more funding and they decide to remaster these spin offs lol

Personally I wish for a Crisis Core remaster. That game was amazing and deserves it moreso than FFXII that nobody asked for -_-

It was probably a pre-emptive move from SE before everyone starts to set unrealistic expectations.

They don`t need to do much... They just need to release them as HD remaster, with native 1080p (or 4k for PS4 Pro), 60 FPS and loads of anti-aliasing and filters. Just like they did with FF X on PS4 ( but this game is just 30 fps).

Hell, Crisis Core could even have been ported easily to the PS2 if they wanted to, porting it to PS4 should be very, very easy.

I think part of the issue is that depending on what changes are in the FFVII remake from a story pov itmight influence the continuity of the spin-offs.  For the spin-off to be remastered as a quick cash grab is one thing.  But for it to tie directly in with the remake might be another.

Never thought this would be a thing personally, but I guess for the real diehards of the spin-offs they were hoping!
