Forums - Gaming Discussion - Gaming shouldn't go over 4K. Once we fully achieve 4K we should focus on framerate!

With good anti-aliasing, there isn't much difference between 1080p and 4k on a TV across the room to me, s I'd rather they just get shit right at 1080p...

Why can't we have 60 fps like right now?

You can, it's called psvr. (Or a gaming pc but I figured you meant on consoles)

I think once your see games at 8K in the future with 1TB of RAM, you will have a different opinion. There is a long way to go before we can stop seeing advancements in display tech. 4K is only an 8MP image, and it is being diplayed at 50 - 80" in most homes. That is not the best quality. Now 8K or 33MP, that is starting to get to the point where you are getting life like images.

We also have to take VR into account. That will be like a 400" display once we reach 160º FOV, and even 33MP will show flaws at that scale. We have a very long way to go before we stop worrying about resolution. However, in good news games need to be 120fps to assure no one will get motion sick. So your hope for higher frame rates before more resolution will be answered in VR due to necessity.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

What we really need is better settings menus. Let the people who care mostly about resolution crank it up, but provide an option to scale back the game to 60/120 fps and lower resolutions. Or just let them turn up the visual effects at 1080p/30fps if they want. What's so hard about that?

New machines should support whatever the modern resolution is, but we're certainly at a point of diminishing returns on resolution.

I don't mind 30 fps but 60 fps is always better.

I thought people on this forum hated PC's?

Err... 4k should not be the focus of next gen or the gen after. So much to be achieved on the visual front which should take priority over 4k.

Until You can barely tell the difference between in-game, CGI cutscene resolutions above 1080p should be an after thought

A viable option would be to give the player the option to run the game in 1080p at 60fps.
1080p is already good enough unless you have a, >60" TV.

Sorry to burt your bubble, but 8k or 7680×4320 is next. ;)

Games that can leverage the increases in resolution should do so.

Games that are more sensitive to performance should focus on that area. (Overwatch for example.)

Please come on stop this madness. What the hell are humans gonna do with 8k. I mean will 8k truly translate to more crispness for our eyes. What next? Will the PS7 play 16k games. When will the stupid resolution saturation reach. Some games and animations already feel life-like as is. What are they gonna look more real than the real world around me? I mean I ask whether 4k movies and games are not enough even though they have barely caught on as is. Also how much resolution can the human eye register. Can we even without kidding ourselves tell the difference between 4k 8k and a possible 16k
